Abu Bakar Among The Most Influential Muslims In The World
11 December 2009By Babandi Gumel
Though the position is mainly ceremonial yet Alhaji
Sa’ad Abubakar the 20th Sultan of Sokoto wields great
power and influence among the Muslims not only in
Nigeria but the whole Muslim Ummah throughout the
world.
In a new Book titled 500 Most Influential Muslims only
seven people from Nigeria that included President
Umaru ‘Yar Adua were included in the book published
last Month.
The Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero as well as the
former Nigeria’s representative to the International
Court of Justice Prince Bola Ajibola and Latif
Adegbite the Secretary General of the Jama’ati Nasril
Islam managed to be included in the book’s most
influential people published by the Centre for Muslim
Christian Understanding at the Georgetwon University.
Apart from Sultan Abubakar not even President ‘Yar
Adua could manage to make it to the top 50 most
influential people as listed in the new publication.
Sultan Saad Abubakar was regarded as the 16th most
influential Muslim in the whole World trailing behind
Sheikh Abdulwahab the Ameer of Tabligh Jaama’a in
Pakistan who emerged as the 15th most influential
person in the Muslim world.
Sheikh AbdulWahab coincidently expected in Nigeria for
annual Tablighi Ijtimah taking place in Ilorin this
Weekend would be his second rare visit to Nigeria the
last one which was in August last year.
He is well known all over the world from Asia Europe
America Australia and the Middle East for his phrase
the Muslims irrespective of their age gender should
all repent for their sins and return to Allah for
succour.
People would be surprise to know that influential
leaders including Buhari Shagari or Babangida not to
talk of other Governors such as Shekarau or Sule
Lamido could not be included in the list of these most
influential Muslims listed in the Year 2009 becoming
like the Guinness Book of Record for the Muslim Ummah
.
King Abdullah Bin Abdul Azeez of Saudi Arabia secured
the most coveted position as the most influential
Muslim in the whole World. The Supreme Leader of Iran
Ayotallah Khameini is the 2nd most influential Muslim
leader followed by King Muhammed Hassan V1 of Morocco.
The next in line to follow is King Abdullah of Jordan
followed by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan then Sultan Qaboos of Oman is closely trailing
behind them.
The Grand Ayotallah Ali Sistani of Najaf became the
7th most influential person in the World and the Grand
Sheikh of Azhar Dr Tantawi took the eighth position in
the list.
The famous often outspoken Sheikh Qaradawi the Ameer
of the International Muslim Scholars took the 9th
position of influence in the record.
The Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr Ali Gomaa managed to take
the tenth position called Goma in Hausa. The Mufti of
Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdu Aziz Bin Abdullah comfortably
secured the 11th position while Muhammed Mahdi the
Ameer of Muslim Brotherhood Ikhwani Muslim of Egypt
became Number twelve.
Two Muslim preachers Imam Effendi Fethullah of Turkey
and prominent Television preacher and social activist
Amr Khaled took the 13th and 14th positions
respectively.
The publication the first of its kind was intended to
highlight the movers and shakers of the Muslim World
which was broken into 15 categories that included
leaders, scholars and many prominent Muslims all over
the world.
Few among the Muslims that secured place among the top
fifty included Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Ali Cisse the
Leader of the Tijjaniya Sufi Group in West Africa.
One interesting thing Sheikh Hassan Narillah the
Leader of Hezbollah in Lebanon came after Sultan Saad
Abubakar as the 17th most influential person in the
world.
Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Makhtoum the Prime Minister
of the Emirates Ruler of Dubai managed to secure place
among the fifty top most influential persons as Number
21 in the list and Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkhia
secured the 24th position while President Hosni
Mubarak of Egypt or Colonel Gaddafi of Libya could not
make it to the top like ‘Yar Adua.
So therefore Sultan Saad Abubakar has become the most
influential Muslim in Nigeria a position well
deserved.
All those who managed to make it to the top list had
their pictures published and printed except the leader
of Tabligh Jamaah Sheikh Abdul Wahab whose picture was
not available instead the pictures of thousands of
Tablighi followers on their way to Ijtimaah in
Bangledesh was printed in the Book.
