According to Russian bloggers, the true culprit for exposing this summer of Russian secret intelligence officers who worked in the US was, apparently, the former head of the FSB, and now the prime minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

Bloggers refer to previously published reliable information of Russian and foreign media outlets from late 1990's that at the end of the 1980, KGB Maj. Putin was removed from foreign operations and transferred as an informer to a St. Petersburg high school to spy on foreign students because of his "unauthorized contacts" with representatives of the Western secret services abroad.

Western press in late 1990's openly wrote that Putin became a spy simultaneously for the West German BND, and the American CIA, to which he got through the BND.

Putin was paid very well, therefore when he went to Austria in 1990, he was planning to buy a house in the province, which was completely impossible at that time for an ordinary low-paid KGB major.

Putin, well known for his revengefulness and unforgivingness, avenged Russian intelligence agents abroad because they deprived him of a profitable business: Putin stole most of the money allocated by the KGB in Moscow to the agents whom Putin recruited in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and bonuses that Putin received from the CIA and the BND for uncovering the agents that had previously personally recruited for the KGB.

When FSB Col. Putin was appointed by Yeltsin to the post of the Director of the FSB, he disclosed to his bosses in America the whole network of secret Russian intelligence officers in the U.S. Relevant information about them he received as the head of the FSB.

Bloggers point out that the information about the betrayal of revengeful Putin fully correlates with the US data.

It is to be recalled that the FBI submitted to an American court a part of files on Russian spies to get an arrest warrant for them . The earliest information in them is dated January 2000 and it is about a secret filming by the FBI of a Russian intelligence agent Vicky Pelaez, the wife of "Juan Lazaro", alias SVR General Vasenkov. The filming was made by FBI agents in a city park in Mexico, when Mrs. Pelaez received money for the Russian illegal network in the U.S. from a Russian intelligence officer, operating under the cover of a diplomat at the Russian Embassy.

Naturally, Vicky Pelaez and General Vasenkov drew attention of US federal security services before January 2000, and specifically in late 1990's, i.e. exactly during the time when FSB Col. Vladimir Putin was at the post of the FSB director.

Bloggers have noted that Putin and other senior intelligence officers working for the U.S. in Russia are now clumsily trying to shift responsibility for Putin's betrayal on innocent people, probably non-existent in real life, like SVR Col. Shcherbakov or SVR Col. Poteyev, and they deliberately overlook the fact that the network of Russian spies in the US was betrayed in the late 1990's.

Recently, a network of high-ranking US intelligence officers in Russia reported a new lie to Russian media that Russian intelligence officers working inside the US, were allegedly exposed this summer by a former deputy chief of the US Directorate "C" (clandestine intelligence) of the Russian SVR, Col. Poteyev, the bloggers write.
