Jewish groups are writing to Ban Ki-moon asking for President Ahmadinejad to be boycotted at the NPT conference. Iran is being punished for Israel 's crimes - again. Please read their bulletin and the letter that has been composed to Ban Ki-moon.

NEW YORK (JTA) -- Jewish groups are calling on U.N. member representatives to walk out in protest when Iran 's president speaks next week at the United Nations.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's plans to address the U.N. Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference on May 3 make a mockery of the proceedings, Jewish groups said.

"We call on all countries, particularly those that value democracy and freedom, to leave the United Nations hall when Iran 's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, rises to speak," the president and executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Alan Solow and Malcolm Hoenlein, said in a statement. " Iran 's pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability poses a threat to the region and the entire Western world. To have President Ahmadinejad address this review conference makes a mockery of the efforts of many countries to prevent nuclear weapons and nuclear terrorism from becoming the gravest global threats of this century."

The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York issued an action alert urging readers to e-mail U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at sg@un.org to protest Ahmadenijad's inclusion at the conference.

The World Jewish Congress asked its member communities to contact their government representatives to persuade them to participate in the protest walkout, saying in a statement, "It is dismaying that, once again, the U.N. is allowing the head of a regime, foremost in the sponsorship of terrorism and the abuse of human rights, who defies U.N. resolutions regarding its nuclear ambitions, to appear before the international body."

In an effort to help us stop further injustice and conflict, below is my letter to Mr. Ki-moon

Your Excellency, 

On May 3rd, President Ahmadinejad will stand before the United Nations to address the U.N. Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.  President Ahmadinejad will defend not only the rights of 70 million Iranians,  but he has the heavy burden of  challenging hypocrisy and double-standard. 

As a signatory to the NPT, Iran has been denied the right to civilian technology under pressure from interest groups.  Not long ago, the same groups committed heinous acts of "infanticide" in Iraq (UNSCR 687) using the same scare tactics --with the full cooperation of the United Nations.  The United Nations estimated 1.7 million Iraqi civilians died as a result of sanctions.  The former Assistant Secretary General of the UN, Dennis Halliday, and many other top officials, resigned in protest, saying: "The policy of economic sanctions is totally bankrupt. We are in the process of destroying an entire society. It is as simple and as terrifying as that".  

Yet, unabashed, the same immoral policy is being applied towards Iran-- a country which is in compliance of the NPT.    The unconscionable nuclear threat against Iran specified in the new U.S. nuclear posture review which is in violation of UNSCR 984 met no resistance from the United Nations.  

Tragically,  the same interest groups in this country had long planned to control the United Nations and each country's respective representatives, as outlined by Newt Gingrich in 2005 (http://www.aei.org/publications/pubID.23396,filter.all/pub_detail.asp).   Today, more than ever, they plan on hijacking this crucial meeting while President Ahmadinejad delivers his speech.  The Jewish Communities of New York are asking for a walk out; perhaps uneasy that the subject of Israel 's hundreds of illicit weapons will  be mentioned. 

Your Excellency, Mr. Ki-moon, you must have had the moral excellence to have been selected for this position.  No doubt it is with a lesser degree of difficulty than the rest of us that you would be able to transfer this high morality into a just act.  Iran 's case is the most deserving of a hearing and it must not be treated with lack of courtesy nor should it be hijacked by those who have no moral standing.
