Removed From Society

Friday, 20th August 2010
at Bareskrim Mabes Polri (Criminal Detective Agency,
Indonesian Police HQ - ed) so many Muslims wanted to
visit Ustadz Abu Bakar Ba’asyir. The heavy rain which
flushed Jakarta that afternoon, did not dampen the
enthusiasm of the steady stream of visitors, there
were members of the Jama’ah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT)
who came from Banten, in fact even from Malang, East
Java. Among the leaders who came to visit was Ustadz
Achwan from Malang, East Java, he is the Amir of the
Jama’ah Ansharut Tauhid who are replacing the
position of Ustadz Abu Bakar Ba’asyir for the time
being. Also present was General Chairman of
GARIS (Islamic Reform Movement), H. Encep
Hernawan and last but not least the deputy Amir of the
Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia (MMI),
Ustadz Abu Jibriel.
The visitors at the
Bareskrim Mabes Polri are restricted to 10 people to
enter alternately at a time and were given around 15
minutes to meet Ustadz Abu Bakar Ba’asyir. After a
long waiting in the queue, at last the
voa-islam.com team managed to meet with
Ustadz Abu, on the last turn together with Ustadz Abu
Jibriel. That was the chance for the voa-islam.com
team to have a discussion and break the fast with
Ustadz Abu Bakar Ba’asyir.
Such a strict security
check was given to the visitors. Starting from going
through the metal detector, to the checking of the
luggage in the bags. The police officers also
prohibited bringing in mobile phones, cameras and
whatever recording equipment into the detention hall.
Inside a room, there
are about 12 benches for the visitors, while Ustadz
Abu sat in front facing the visitors. Wearing a white
qameez and a skullcap, Ustadz Abu seemed
friendly and familiar talking with the guests who
visited him. The followings are the excerpts from the
discussion of voa-islam.com with Ustadz Abu
approaching the time for breaking the fast:
How
is the condition in the prison Ustadz?
Alhamdulillah,
the condition is sufficient, meaning it’s quite
spacious, it has its shower room. But since the room
was a bit damp, it was provided with an AC
(air-conditioning). I can’t quite stand it if using
the AC, so I asked them to lower down the AC (the
coolness). They promised to find me another room where
the temperature is not damp.
As for the
interrogation, it is already complete actually, but if
according to the rules of the thaghut I will
still be detained until December.
How
do you spend your days in the prison Ustadz?
In this prison,
yeah it is only for ibaadah. I am being
given the chance by Allah to do ibaadah,
reciting the Qur’an, Zikr and Solat.
So, there is no work at all.
How
is the treatment here?
Alhamdulillah,
for me there was no harsh treatment. Yesterday during
the examination, I did not even want to be examined
unless there is the TPM (Team of
Muslim Lawyers), in the end the TPM were asked to
come. So, every time there's examination, the TPM must
be present. That’s how it should be right? Because
it's a matter is whether you dare or not.
How
about the chronology of Ustadz’s arrest?
At that time I was
attending the weekly lecture session. I invited my
wife and family to West Java, i.e to Bandung, and then
Tasikmalaya. After the event in Tasikmalaya was done,
we went home. It was at that time on our way home in
Banjar that there were many policemen, then the car I
was riding in was herded towards a police station.
After the car went in, our group was yelled at,
“Come out, come out!”
I just remained silent
there, at last the driver was asked to open the door
but he refused, then the window was broken and the
door opened. After the door was opened, I went out,
after I got out there was this soldier, may be a
Christian, who yelled at me “I will shoot you!”
So, I said “Ye be cursed! Want to shoot me? Shoot
now! Ill bred! Cursed you! You are having that (the
gun - ed) so it is making you arrogant? Impudent you!”
Finally his commander
broke it up, “Enough ustadz, enough!” Then he
told, “If dealing with the ustadz, you cannot be
rude, everything should be subtle.”
It was my driver who
got dragged and then was told to face down, I wanted
to stop it but I could not because I was restrained.
Whereas he did not know anything, he was only a
driver, he just drove me as one of the two drivers who
take turns. Later he was detained for a few days, only
then he can go home.
Alhamdulillah,
from there we were escorted to the airport and
straight to Jakarta, the treatment was fine and I was
also fine.
What
is the problem, that Ustadz is always arrested by the
police in a number of different government regimes?
Yes, this case of mine
is an American strategy. America wants that I do not
exist in the society because my mission was deemed as
detrimental to American strategy, because I put right
to the meaning of tawheed and the meaning of
iman. That's what they really do not like.
So, America endeavors to find a way of how to cut me
off from society.
The first,
they demanded for my extradition before, during the
reign of Megawati, but I was helped by Allah because
Megawati had the gut to refuse, so it failed.
The second,
when I got out of the Salemba prison, I was arrested
again. See, I was accused of having involvement in the
bombing of the JW Marriot, whereas I did not know
anything, it failed again.
The third,
those Bali Bombers were forced to sign a statement,
that the one who directed their actions was me, by the
confession of the three men through torture. But I was
protected by Allah, they retracted (their statement)
and in the end, it also failed.
See, this is the
fourth, I am accused of commanding,
planning and assisting the trainings in Aceh.
Yesterday I saw the articles of the thaghut
that they have alleged on me, many of those articles
have the threat of death penalty as the sentence.
Meaning America wants Ustadz to die?
Yeah, America
surely does not want me to be in the midst of the
society, either killed or any other, as long as I am
not in the society anymore. That is the strategy of
America, by using the police. So, I am telling the
Densus, “You are the right hand of America, I do
not want you to check, I’ll explain the evidence in
court later that you are the right hand of America!”
What
about the alleged involvement of Ustadz in the Aceh
incidents?
Later in the court I
would expose it all. We have our own strategy in
jihad. Our jihad in the Jama’ah Ansharut Tauhid
is only able in the amar ma’ruf nahi munkar.
Our i’dad is preparing the physical strength,
we did not touch the weapons because we are not able
to. As for the groups in Aceh, apparently they had
been infiltrated by a police whose name is Sofyan
Tsauri.
Are
the activities they are doing rightly according to
Shar’ie law?
It is right because
they are executing the commands of Allah Ta’ala:
"Against them make
ready your strength to the utmost of your power,
including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the
hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and
others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah
doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of
Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be
treated unjustly.” (Al-Anfal 60).
They are carrying out
the i’dad, in the view of Shari’a
they are right, regardless of whether we agree or
disagree by their means, that’s another matter. It is
right in terms of the Shari’a but in terms of
the thaghut laws it is wrong because they are
using weapons.
We realize that, so
for us when we do i’dad, conducting the
command of Allah, we still could not afford to use
weapons but with physical only, that’s the difference.
But we also do not blame them, the shari’edaleels are there. I could not blame them,
because that would mean rejecting the verse.
In
the various medias, the international Mujahideen have
acknowledged the arrest of Ustadz Abu Bakar Baasyir,
how is your response to that Ustadz?
Alhamdulillah,
jazakumullahkhairan, thank you. We
also ask from them to make do’a so that we
can be patient like the patience of the followers of
the Prophet.
According to Al-Qur’an
chapter Ali Imran 146, the patience of the
followers of the Prophet are of three kinds. When the
Prophet conducted jihad with his followers, when
inflicted by disasters in the Path of Allah, because
the people who struggle for Islam would surely be
inflicted by disasters, no one who struggles for Islam
is safe.
First,
“fama wahanu lima ashobahum fi sabilillah.”
Not getting discouraged because of disasters, they
remains having a big heart, not discouraged and so
become cowardly because of being inflicted by
disasters.
Second,
“wa ma dho’ufu.” The spirit does not weaken,
not cooling down because of disasters. Keep up the
spirit!
Third,
“wamas takanu.” Never giving up, it’s what’s
called the patience of the fighters. Wallahu
yuhibbus shabirin (and Allah love the patient).
Request do’a
from the Mujahideen, so that I can practice the
patience of the followers of the Prophet: Not
getting discouraged, not dispirited
and not surrendering.
Jazakumullahkhairan.
