Iran Poses A Threat To Yemen's future, Says VP: Iran 'Part Of The Problem' In Yemen

Yemeni Vice President Lt. Gen. Ali Mohsen Saleh has described Iran as a
'source of danger' and said it poses a threat to Yemen’s future.
The official Yemeni news agency on Sunday quoted Saleh as saying that the
Houthi militia is an Iranian instrument in Yemen. The lt. gen. noted that all
Yemenis are aware of the Houthis' dependence on and loyalty to Iran.
Saleh also expressed his confidence in knowing that all Yemenis are aware of
the danger at hand and its source. He also pointed out that the Yemeni army
will refuse to respond to the orders of those who have targeted their lives
and military equipment.
They will also not respond to those who have replaced them with the militias
and tried to engage them in futile wars with the Yemeni civilians and
neighboring countries, added the lt. gen.
The vice president continued saying: “September and October’s armies will not
respond to those who have killed their soldiers and commanders and replaced
them with the militias. Nor will they respond to those who have looted their
camps, weapons, equipment and had the militias attack their Yemeni brothers
and civilians.”
The vice president’s statements only reiterate the negative role that Iran
plays in Yemen. Today, the country suffers from a state of poor humanitarian
conditions, continuous outbreak of cholera and growing differences between the
Houthi and Saleh-allied militias. — Al Arabiya English
Iran 'part of the problem' in Yemen: top diplomat
Iran, accused of supporting Shiite Huthi rebels in Yemen, 'is part of the
problem, not the solution' when it comes to ending conflict in the war-torn
nation, Yemen's top diplomat said Monday.
'Iran is the cause of the problem, Iran continues to support the Huthis,
Iranian arms are smuggled. Iran is part of the problem, not the solution,'
Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Mekhlafi said when asked if Tehran could
contribute to a political solution in Yemen.
He was speaking at UN headquarters after a major luncheon hosted by Yemen and
Saudi Arabia with the majority of diplomatic missions to the United Nations.
'Iran has no role to play in the region,' echoed the Saudi ambassador to the
United Nations, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi.

Saudi humanitarian aid to Yemen is estimated to top 8.2 billion dollars.
The Saudi-led military coalition largely controls the country's airspace,
although US drones also carry out strikes on suspected Al-Qaeda bases there.
More than 8,300 people have been killed and 44,000 wounded since the Saudi-led
coalition entered the Yemen war in 2015.
Close to 2,000 Yemenis have also died of cholera since April and another
600,000 are expected to contract the infection this year.
