1st Ayah 1 الأية ١الأوليبِسْم ِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ
مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ
Lam yakuni allatheena kafaroo min ahlialkitabi walmushrikeena munfakkeena
hattata/tiyahumu albayyina
Sahih International
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were
not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence -
Muhsin Khan
Those who disbelieve from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and
Christians) and among Al-Mushrikun, were not going to leave (their disbelief)
until there came to them clear evidence.
Pickthall
Those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters could
not have left off (erring) till the clear proof came unto them,
Yusuf Ali
Those who reject (Truth), among the People of the Book and among the
Polytheists, were not going to depart (from their ways) until there should come
to them Clear Evidence,-
Shakir
Those who disbelieved from among the followers of the Book and the polytheists
could not have separated (from the faithful) until there had come to them the
clear evidence:

(The ones) who have disbelieved among the population of the Book (Or: family of
the Book; i.e., the Jews and Christians) and the associators (Those who
associate others with Allah) could not have left off (erring) until the Supreme
Evidence came up to them-

Ayah 98:2 الأية
رَسُولٌ مِّنَ اللهِ يَتْلُو صُحُفًا مُّطَهَّرَةً
Rasoolun mina Allahi yatloo suhufanmutahhara
Sahih International
A Messenger from Allah , reciting purified scriptures
Muhsin Khan
A Messenger (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) from Allah, reciting (the Quran)
purified pages [purified from Al-Batil (falsehood, etc.)].

A messenger from Allah, reading purified pages

An messenger from Allah, rehearsing scriptures kept pure and holy:

Ayah 98:3 الأية
فِيهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ
Feeha kutubun qayyima
Sahih International
Within which are correct writings.
Muhsin Khan
Containing correct and straight laws from Allah.
Pickthall
Containing correct scriptures.
Yusuf Ali
Wherein are laws (or decrees) right and straight.
Shakir
Wherein are all the right ordinances.
Dr. Ghali
Therein are ever-upright Books.

Ayah 98:4 الأية
وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ
الْبَيِّنَةُ
Wama tafarraqa allatheena ootooalkitaba illa min baAAdi ma jaat-humualbayyina
Sahih International
Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had
come to them clear evidence.
Muhsin Khan
And the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) differed not until after
there came to them clear evidence. (i.e. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)
and whatever was revealed to him).
Pickthall
Nor were the People of the Scripture divided until after the clear proof came
unto them.
Yusuf Ali
Nor did the People of the Book make schisms, until after there came to them
Clear Evidence.
Shakir
And those who were given the Book did not become divided except after clear
evidence had come to them.
Dr. Ghali
And in no way did the ones to whom the Book was brought (become) disunited,
except ever after the Supreme Evidence came up to them.

Ayah 98:5 الأية
وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ
وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ
Wama omiroo illa liyaAAbudooAllaha mukhliseena lahu addeena hunafaawayuqeemoo
assalata wayu/too azzakatawathalika deenu alqayyima
Sahih International
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah , [being] sincere to Him in
religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And
that is the correct religion.
Muhsin Khan
And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship
none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him), and perform
As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat: and that is the right religion.
Pickthall
And they are ordered naught else than to serve Allah, keeping religion pure for
Him, as men by nature upright, and to establish worship and to pay the poor-due.
That is true religion.
Yusuf Ali
And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him
sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to
practise regular charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight.
Shakir
And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being
sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate,
and that is the right religion.
Dr. Ghali
And in no way were they commanded anything except to worship Allah, making the
religion His faithfully (and) unswerving, and to keep up prayer, and bring the
Zakat; (i.e., pay the poor-dues) and that is the Religion most upright.

Ayah 98:6 الأية
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ
جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ
Inna allatheena kafaroo min ahli alkitabiwalmushrikeena fee nari jahannama
khalideenafeeha ola-ika hum sharru albariyya
Sahih International
Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the
polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are
the worst of creatures.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Quran and Prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and
Christians) and Al-Mushrikun will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst
of creatures.
Pickthall
Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters,
will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings.
Yusuf Ali
Those who reject (Truth), among the People of the Book and among the
Polytheists, will be in Hell-Fire, to dwell therein (for aye). They are the
worst of creatures.
Shakir
Surely those who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book and the
polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of
men.
Dr. Ghali
Surely (the ones) who have disbelieved among the population of the Book (Or:
family of the Book; i.e., the Jews and Christians) and the associators (Those
who associate others with Allah) will be in the Fire of Hell, eternally
(abiding) therein; those are they who are the most evil beings (Literally:
Initiated creatures).

Ayah 98:7 الأية
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ
الْبَرِيَّةِ
Inna allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati ola-ika humkhayru albariyya
Sahih International
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of
creatures.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, those who believe [in the Oneness of Allah, and in His Messenger
Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) including all obligations ordered by Islam] and do
righteous good deeds, they are the best of creatures.
Pickthall
(And) lo! those who believe and do good works are the best of created beings.
Yusuf Ali
Those who have faith and do righteous deeds,- they are the best of creatures.
Shakir
(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the -best of men.
Dr. Ghali
Surely (the ones) who have believed and done deeds of righteousness, those are
they who are the most charitable (i.e., best) of beings.

Ayah 98:8 الأية
جَزَاؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ
خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ رَّضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ
لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ
Jazaohum AAinda rabbihim jannatuAAadnin tajree min tahtiha al-anharu
khalideenafeeha abadan radiya Allahu AAanhum waradooAAanhu thalika liman
khashiya rabbah
Sahih International
Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which
rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and
they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
Muhsin Khan
Their reward with their Lord is 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (Gardens of Eternity),
underneath which rivers flow, they will abide therein forever, Allah
Well-Pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord.
Pickthall
Their reward is with their Lord: Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow,
wherein they dwell for ever. Allah hath pleasure in them and they have pleasure
in Him. This is (in store) for him who feareth his Lord.
Yusuf Ali
Their reward is with Allah: Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow; they
will dwell therein for ever; Allah well pleased with them, and they with Him:
all this for such as fear their Lord and Cherisher.
Shakir
Their reward with their Lord is gardens of perpetuity beneath which rivers flow,
abiding therein for ever; Allah is well pleased with them and they are well
pleased with Him; that is for him who fears his Lord.
Dr. Ghali
Their recompense is with their Lord: Gardens of Adn (Eden) from beneath which
rivers run, eternally (abiding) therein forever. Allah is satisfied with them,
and they are satisfied with Him. That is for him who is apprehensive of his
Lord.
