1st Ayah  1  الأية ١الأولي
بِسْم ِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
الْقَارِعَةُ

The Striking Calamity -

Al-Qari'ah (the striking Hour i.e. the Day of Resurrection),

Ayah  101:2  الأية
مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
Ma alqariAAa

What is the Striking Calamity?

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ
Wama adraka ma alqariAAa

And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

And what will make you know what the striking (Hour) is?

Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is!

And what will explain to thee what the (Day) of Noise and Clamour is?

And what makes you realize what the Smiter is?

Ayah  101:4  الأية
يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ
Yawma yakoonu annasu kalfarashialmabthooth

Sahih International
 
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,

It is a Day whereon mankind will be like moths scattered about,

Pickthall
 
A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths

Yusuf Ali
 
(It is) a Day whereon men will be like moths scattered about,

Shakir
 
The day on which men shall be as scattered moths,

Dr. Ghali
 
The Day (whereon) mankind will be like disseminated moths,

Ayah  101:5  الأية
وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ
Watakoonu aljibalu kalAAihnialmanfoosh

Sahih International
 
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.

And the mountains will be like carded wool,

And the mountains will become as carded wool.

And the mountains will be like carded wool.

And the mountains shall be as loosened wool.

Dr. Ghali
 
And the mountains will be like carded wool tufts,

Ayah  101:6  الأية
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
Faamma man thaqulat mawazeenuh

Sahih International
 
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

Then as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be heavy,

Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),

Then, he whose balance (of good deeds) will be (found) heavy,

Then as for him whose measure of good deeds is heavy,

Then, as for him whose scales weigh heavy, (i.e., with good deeds).

Ayah  101:7  الأية
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiya

Sahih International
 
He will be in a pleasant life.

Muhsin Khan
 
He will live a pleasant life (in Paradise).

Pickthall
 
He will live a pleasant life.

Yusuf Ali
 
Will be in a life of good pleasure and satisfaction.

Shakir
 
He shall live a pleasant life.

Dr. Ghali
 
So he will be in a satisfied livelihood.

Ayah  101:8  الأية
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ
Waamma man khaffat mawazeenuh

Sahih International
 
But as for one whose scales are light,

But as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be light,

But as for him whose scales are light,

But he whose balance (of good deeds) will be (found) light,-

And as for him whose measure of good deeds is light,

And, as for him whose scales weigh light, (i.e., with deeds).

Ayah  101:9  الأية
فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ
Faommuhu hawiya

Sahih International
 
His refuge will be an abyss.

Muhsin Khan
 
He will have his home in Hawiyah (pit, i.e. Hell).

Pickthall
 
A bereft and Hungry One will be his mother,

Yusuf Ali
 
Will have his home in a (bottomless) Pit.

Shakir
 
His abode shall be the abyss.

Dr. Ghali
 
Then his home is the bottom of Hell (Literally: his mother is tumbling into Hell).

Ayah  101:10  الأية
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ
Wama adraka ma hiya

Sahih International
 
And what can make you know what that is?

And what will make you know what it is?

Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! -

And what will explain to thee what this is?

And what will make you know what it is?

Ayah  101:11  الأية
نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ
Narun hamiya

Sahih International
 
It is a Fire, intensely hot.

(It is) a hot blazing Fire!

Pickthall
 
Raging Fire.

Yusuf Ali
 
(It is) a Fire Blazing fiercely!

Shakir
 
A burning fire.

Dr. Ghali
 
(It is) a Fire burning hot.
