1st Ayah 1 الأية ١الأوليبِسْم ِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ
Ya ayyuha almuddaththir
Sahih International
O you who covers himself [with a garment],

O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)!

O thou enveloped in thy cloak,

And your Lord glorify

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
Wathiyabaka fatahhir

And your clothing purify

And thy garments keep free from stain!

Ayah 74:5 الأية
وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ
Warrujza fahjur

And uncleanliness avoid

And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)!

Pollution shun!

And all abomination shun!

And uncleanness do shun,

And so defilement forsake!

Ayah 74:6 الأية
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
Wala tamnun tastakthir
Sahih International
And do not confer favor to acquire more

And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of
Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah).
Pickthall
And show not favour, seeking wordly gain!
Yusuf Ali
Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!
Shakir
And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase,

And be not bountiful, (hoping) to gain more,

Ayah 74:7 الأية
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ
Walirabbika fasbir
Sahih International
But for your Lord be patient.

And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)!

For the sake of thy Lord, be patient!

But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant!

And for the sake of your Lord, be patient.

And to your Lord (endure) patiently!

Ayah 74:8 الأية
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ
Fa-itha nuqira fee annaqoor

And when the trumpet is blown,

Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing);

Ayah 74:9 الأية
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
Fathalika yawma-ithin yawmunAAaseer

That Day will be a difficult day

Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day.

Surely that day will be a day of anguish,

That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,-

That, at that time, shall be a difficult day,

Upon that Day then it will be a difficult Day.

Ayah 74:10 الأية
عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
AAala alkafireena ghayruyaseer

For the disbelievers - not easy.

Far from easy for the disbelievers.

Not of ease, for disbelievers.

Far from easy for those without Faith.

For the unbelievers, anything but easy.

For the disbelievers, other than being easy.

Ayah 74:11 الأية
ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheeda
Sahih International
Leave Me with the one I created alone

Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e.
Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)!

Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely,

Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!-

Leave Me and him whom I created alone,

Ayah 74:12 الأية
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdooda

And to whom I granted extensive wealth

And then granted him resources in abundance.

And then bestowed upon him ample means,

Ayah 74:14 الأية
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا
Wamahhadtu lahu tamheeda

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].

And made life smooth and comfortable for him!

And made (life) smooth for him.

To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable!

And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably;

And made (life) smooth for him in an accessible (way).

Ayah 74:15 الأية
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
Thumma yatmaAAu an azeed

Then he desires that I should add more.

After all that he desires that I should give more;

Yet he desireth that I should give more.
Yusuf Ali
Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);-

And yet he desires that I should add more!

Thereafter he expects that I increase (My favors).

Ayah 74:16 الأية
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا
Kalla innahu kana li-ayatinaAAaneeda
Sahih International
No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.
Muhsin Khan
Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences,
verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).
Pickthall
Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations.
Yusuf Ali
By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory!
Shakir
By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications.
Dr. Ghali
Not at all! Surely he has been stubborn to Our signs.

Ayah 74:17 الأية
سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
Saorhiquhu saAAooda
Sahih International
I will cover him with arduous torment.
Muhsin Khan
I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called
As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment!
Pickthall
On him I shall impose a fearful doom.
Yusuf Ali
Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!
Shakir
I will make a distressing punishment overtake him.
Dr. Ghali
I will soon oppress him to a (hard) mounting (in calamities).

Ayah 74:18 الأية
إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
Innahu fakkara waqaddar

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.

Verily, he thought and plotted;

For lo! he did consider; then he planned -

For he thought and he plotted;-

Surely he reflected and guessed,

Surely he did think and he determined!

Ayah 74:19 الأية
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
Faqutila kayfa qaddar
Sahih International
So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

So let him be cursed! How he plotted!

(Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned!
Yusuf Ali
And woe to him! How he plotted!-

But may he be cursed how he plotted;

So, may he be slain, how he determined!

Ayah 74:20 الأية
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
Thumma qutila kayfa qaddar

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted!

Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -

Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-

Again, may he be cursed how he plotted;

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

Then he considered [again];

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Thumma AAabasa wabasar

Then he frowned and scowled;

Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way;

Then frowned he and showed displeasure.

Then he frowned and he scowled;

Then he frowned and scowled,

Thereafter he frowned, and he scowled;

Ayah 74:23 الأية
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ
Thumma adbara wastakbar
Sahih International
Then he turned back and was arrogant

Then he turned back and was proud;

Then turned he away in pride
Yusuf Ali
Then he turned back and was haughty;
Shakir
Then he turned back and was big with pride,
Dr. Ghali
Thereafter he withdrew, and he waxed proud.

Ayah 74:24 الأية
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
Faqala in hatha illa sihrunyu/thar
Sahih International
And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].
Muhsin Khan
Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old;
Pickthall
And said: This is naught else than magic from of old;
Yusuf Ali
Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;
Shakir
~Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others);
Dr. Ghali
So he said, "Decidedly this is nothing except sorcery, transmitted relics.

Ayah 74:25 الأية
إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ
In hatha illa qawlu albashar
Sahih International
This is not but the word of a human being."
Muhsin Khan
"This is nothing but the word of a human being!"
Pickthall
This is naught else than speech of mortal man.
Yusuf Ali
"This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"
Shakir
This is naught but the word of a mortal.
Dr. Ghali
Decidedly this is nothing except the speech of mortals."

Ayah 74:26 الأية
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
Saosleehi saqar
Sahih International
I will drive him into Saqar.
Muhsin Khan
I will cast him into Hell-fire
Pickthall
Him shall I fling unto the burning.
Yusuf Ali
Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire!
Shakir
I will cast him into hell.
Dr. Ghali
I shall soon roast him in Saqar.

Ayah 74:27 الأية
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ
Wama adraka ma saqar
Sahih International
And what can make you know what is Saqar?

And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is?

- Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! -
Yusuf Ali
And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is?

And what will make you realize what hell is?
Dr. Ghali
And what makes you realize what Saqar is?

Ayah 74:28 الأية
لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
La tubqee wala tathar
Sahih International
It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],

It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)!
Pickthall
It leaveth naught; it spareth naught
Yusuf Ali
Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!-
Shakir
It leaves naught nor does it spare aught.
Dr. Ghali
It neither spares (i.e., no survivors remain) nor leaves (anything) behind,

Ayah 74:29 الأية
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
Lawwahatun lilbashar
Sahih International
Blackening the skins.

Burning the skins!

It shrivelleth the man.

Darkening and changing the colour of man!
Shakir
It scorches the mortal.
Dr. Ghali
Shriveling mortals,

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
AAalayha tisAAata AAashar
Sahih International
Over it are nineteen [angels].

Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell).

Above it are nineteen.

Over it are Nineteen.

Over it are nineteen.

Ayah 74:31 الأية
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا
عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ
أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ
الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي
قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ
كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللهُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ
جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
Wama jaAAalna as-habaannari illa mala-ikatan wamajaAAalna AAiddatahum illa
fitnatan lillatheenakafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitabawayazdada
allatheena amanoo eemananwala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitabawalmu/minoona
waliyaqoola allatheena feequloobihim maradun walkafiroona mathaarada Allahu
bihatha mathalan kathalikayudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashaowama
yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wamahiya illa thikra lilbashar
Sahih International
And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made
their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were
given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase
in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt
and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What
does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He
wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except
Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.

And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed
their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people
of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this
Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is
written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may
increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left
for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose
hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah
intends by this (curious) example ?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and
guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this
(Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind.

We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have
We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the
Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in
faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may
not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers,
may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom
He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save
Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals.
Yusuf Ali
And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed
their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the
Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that
no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that

doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and
guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and
this is no other than a warning to mankind.

And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not
made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have
been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith,
and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that
those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah
mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides
whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this
is naught but a reminder to the mortals.
Dr. Ghali
And in no way have We made the Wardens (Literally: companions) of the Fire
except Angels, and in no way have We made their (right) number except as a
temptation for the ones who have disbelieved, (and) that the ones to whom the
Book has been brought may have certitude, and that the ones who have believed
may increase in belief, and that the ones to whom the Book has been brought and
the believers may not be suspicious, and that the ones in whose hearts there is
sickness and the disbelievers may say, "What would Allah intend by this as a
similitude?" Thus does Allah lead into error whomever He decides, and He guides
whomever He decides, and in no way does anyone know the hosts of your Lord
except He. And in no way is it anything except a Reminding to the mortals.

Ayah 74:32 الأية
كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ
Kalla walqamar
Sahih International
No! By the moon

Nay, and by the moon,

Nay, by the Moon

Nay, verily: By the Moon,

Nay; I swear by the moon,

Not at all! And (by) the moon,

Ayah 74:33 الأية
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
Wallayli ith adbar

And [by] the night when it departs

And by the night when it withdraws,

And the night when it withdraweth

And by the Night as it retreateth,

And the night when it departs,

And the night as it with draws,

Ayah 74:34 الأية
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
Wassubhi ithaasfar

And [by] the morning when it brightens,

And by the dawn when it brightens,

And the dawn when it shineth forth,

And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-

And the daybreak when it shines;

And the morning when it shines (forth),

Ayah 74:35 الأية
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ
Innaha la-ihda alkubar
Sahih International
Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]

Verily, it (Hell, or their denial of the Prophet Muhammad SAW , or the Day of
Resurrection) is but one of the greatest calamities.

Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents)
Yusuf Ali
This is but one of the mighty (portents),
Shakir
Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes),
Dr. Ghali
Surely it is indeed one of the greatest things,

Ayah 74:36 الأية
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
Natheeran lilbashar
Sahih International
As a warning to humanity -

A warning to mankind,

As a warning unto men,

A warning to mankind,-

A warning to mortals,

As a warning to mortals,

Ayah 74:37 الأية
لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama awyataakhkhar
Sahih International
To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.

To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to
remain behind (by commiting sins),

Unto him of you who will advance or hang back.
Yusuf Ali
To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-
Shakir
To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind.
Dr. Ghali
To whomever of you who decides to go forward or postpone (i.e., performing
righteous deeds or falling into evil).

Ayah 74:38 الأية
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheena
Sahih International
Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained
Muhsin Khan
Every person is a pledge for what he has earned,
Pickthall
Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds;
Yusuf Ali
Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.

Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns,

Every self will be pledged for whatever it has earned.

Ayah 74:39 الأية
إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
Illa as-haba alyameen
Sahih International
Except the companions of the right,

Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic
Monotheism);

Save those who will stand on the right hand.

Except the Companions of the Right Hand.

Except the people of the right hand,

Ayah 74:40 الأية
فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Fee jannatin yatasaaloon

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other

In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another,

In gardens they will ask one another

(They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,

Ayah 74:41 الأية
عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
AAani almujrimeen

About the criminals,

About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will
say to them):

Ayah 74:42 الأية
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
Ma salakakum fee saqar

[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"

"What has caused you to enter Hell?"

What hath brought you to this burning?

"What led you into Hell Fire?"

What has brought you into hell?

"What inserted you into Saqar?"

Ayah 74:43 الأية
قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleen
Sahih International
They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,

They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)

They will answer: We were not of those who prayed

They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;

They shall say: We were not of those who prayed;

They will say, "We were not of the ones who prayed,

Ayah 74:44 الأية
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeen
Sahih International
Nor did we used to feed the poor.
Muhsin Khan
"Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor);
Pickthall
Nor did we feed the wretched.
Yusuf Ali
"Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;
Shakir
And we used not to feed the poor;
Dr. Ghali
And we did not feed the indigent,

Ayah 74:45 الأية
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkha-ideen
Sahih International
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
Muhsin Khan
"And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers.
Pickthall
We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders,
Yusuf Ali
"But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;
Shakir
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain
discourses.
Dr. Ghali
And we used to wade with the waders, (i.e., wade in vaintalk).

Ayah 74:46 الأية
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi addeen
Sahih International
And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

"And we used to belie the Day of Recompense
Pickthall
And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
Yusuf Ali
"And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
Shakir
And we used to call the day of judgment a lie;
Dr. Ghali
And we used to cry lies to the Day of Doom.

Ayah 74:47 الأية
حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ
Hatta atanaalyaqeen
Sahih International
Until there came to us the certainty."
Muhsin Khan
"Until there came to us (the death) that is certain."
Pickthall
Till the Inevitable came unto us.
Yusuf Ali
"Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."
Shakir
Till death overtook us.
Dr. Ghali
Until the Certitude came up to us."

Ayah 74:48 الأية
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu ashshafiAAeen
Sahih International
So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
Muhsin Khan
So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them.
Pickthall
The mediation of no mediators will avail them then.
Yusuf Ali
Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them.
Shakir
So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them.
Dr. Ghali
So in no way will the intercession of the intercessors profit them.

Ayah 74:49 الأية
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
Fama lahum AAani attathkiratimuAArideen
Sahih International
Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning
away
Muhsin Khan
Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from
(receiving) admonition?
Pickthall
Why now turn they away from the Admonishment,
Yusuf Ali
Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-
Shakir
What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition
Dr. Ghali
Then what is it with them that they are veering away from the Reminder.

Ayah 74:50 الأية
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
Kaannahum humurun mustanfira
Sahih International
As if they were alarmed donkeys
Muhsin Khan
As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys.
Pickthall
As they were frightened asses
Yusuf Ali
As if they were affrighted asses,
Shakir
As if they were asses taking fright
Dr. Ghali
As if they were stampeding reddish asses,

Ayah 74:51 الأية
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ
Farrat min qaswara
Sahih International
Fleeing from a lion?
Muhsin Khan
Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey.
Pickthall
Fleeing from a lion?
Yusuf Ali
Fleeing from a lion!
Shakir
That had fled from a lion?
Dr. Ghali
Fleeing from a fierce beast? (Or: animal)

Ayah 74:52 الأية
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/tasuhufan munashshara
Sahih International
Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread
about.
Muhsin Khan
Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming
from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad SAW has
come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.).
Pickthall
Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from
Allah).
Yusuf Ali
Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!
Shakir
Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out;
Dr. Ghali
No indeed, every person of them would like scrolls spread open to be brought
him.

Ayah 74:53 الأية
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ
Kalla bal la yakhafoonaal-akhira
Sahih International
No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.
Muhsin Khan
Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment).
Pickthall
Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter.
Yusuf Ali
By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,
Shakir
Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter.
Dr. Ghali
Not at all! No indeed, (but) they do not fear the Hereafter.

Ayah 74:54 الأية
كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ
Kalla innahu tathkira
Sahih International
No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder
Muhsin Khan
Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition,
Pickthall
Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment.
Yusuf Ali
Nay, this surely is an admonition:
Shakir
Nay! it is surely an admonition.
Dr. Ghali
Not at all! Surely it is a Reminder.

Ayah 74:55 الأية
فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ
Faman shaa thakarah
Sahih International
Then whoever wills will remember it.
Muhsin Khan
So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)!
Pickthall
So whosoever will may heed.
Yusuf Ali
Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!
Shakir
So whoever pleases may mind it.
Dr. Ghali
So whoever decides will remember it.

Ayah 74:56 الأية
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ
الْمَغْفِرَةِ
Wama yathkuroona illaan yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu attaqwawaahlu almaghfirat
Sahih International
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and
adequate for [granting] forgiveness.
Muhsin Khan
And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One,
deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and
should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives
(sins).
Pickthall
And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is
the fount of Mercy.
Yusuf Ali
But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of
Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.
Shakir
And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy
to forgive.
Dr. Ghali
And in no way will they remember, except that Allah decides. He is The Source
(Literally: The only Qualified One) of piety and The Source of forgiveness.
