1st Ayah 1 الأية ١الأوليبِسْم ِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ
Itha assamao inshaqqat
Sahih International
When the sky has split [open]

When the heaven is split asunder,
Pickthall
When the heaven is split asunder
Yusuf Ali
When the sky is rent asunder,
Shakir
When the heaven bursts asunder,
Dr. Ghali
When the heaven will be cloven.
|
Ayah 84:2 الأية
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat
Sahih International
And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
Muhsin Khan
And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so;
Pickthall
And attentive to her Lord in fear,
Yusuf Ali
And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);-
Shakir
And obeys its Lord and it must.
Dr. Ghali
And will listen (submissively) to its Lord- and it will be truly bound to (do
so)-

Ayah 84:3 الأية
وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
Wa-itha al-ardu muddat
Sahih International
And when the earth has been extended
Muhsin Khan
And when the earth is stretched forth,
Pickthall
And when the earth is spread out
Yusuf Ali
And when the earth is flattened out,
Shakir
And when the earth is stretched,
Dr. Ghali
And when the earth will be widely extended,
|
Ayah 84:4 الأية
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat
Sahih International
And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]
Muhsin Khan
And has cast out all that was in it and became empty,
Pickthall
And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty
Yusuf Ali
And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty,
Shakir
And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty,
Dr. Ghali
And will cast forth what is in it and will void itself,
|
Ayah 84:5 الأية
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat
Sahih International
And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so;
Pickthall
And attentive to her Lord in fear!
Yusuf Ali
And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then
will come Home the full reality).
Shakir
And obeys its Lord and it must.
Dr. Ghali
And will listen (submissively) to its Lord- and it will be truly bound to (do
so)-

Ayah 84:6 الأية
يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ
Ya ayyuha al-insanuinnaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhanfamulaqeeh
Sahih International
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and
will meet it.
Muhsin Khan
O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions
(good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your
deeds which you did).
Pickthall
Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in
His presence).
Yusuf Ali
O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully
toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.
Shakir
O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until
you meet Him.
Dr. Ghali
O you man, surely you are exerting yourself to your Lord with great exertion,
then you will be meeting Him.

Ayah 84:7 الأية
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ
Faama man ootiya kitabahubiyameenih
Sahih International
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
Muhsin Khan
Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand,
Pickthall
Then whoso is given his account in his right hand
Yusuf Ali
Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,
Shakir
Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand,
Dr. Ghali
So, as for him who is brought his Book in his right (hand),

Ayah 84:8 الأية
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
Fasawfa yuhasabu hisabanyaseera
Sahih International
He will be judged with an easy account
Muhsin Khan
He surely will receive an easy reckoning,
Pickthall
He truly will receive an easy reckoning
Yusuf Ali
Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,
Shakir
He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning,
Dr. Ghali
Then he will eventually be reckoned an easy reckoning,
|
Ayah 84:9 الأية
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masroora
Sahih International
And return to his people in happiness.
Muhsin Khan
And will return to his family in joy!
Pickthall
And will return unto his folk in joy.
Yusuf Ali
And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!
Shakir
And he shall go back to his people joyful.
Dr. Ghali
And he will turn over (Ingalaba: Literally: turn over) to his family pleased.

Ayah 84:10 الأية
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ
Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraathahrih
Sahih International
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
Muhsin Khan
But whosoever is given his Record behind his back,
Pickthall
But whoso is given his account behind his back,
Yusuf Ali
But he who is given his Record behind his back,-
Shakir
And as to him who is given his book behind his back,
Dr. Ghali
And as for him who is brought his Book beyond his back,
|
Ayah 84:11 الأية
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا
Fasawfa yadAAoo thuboora
Sahih International
He will cry out for destruction
Muhsin Khan
He will invoke (his) destruction,
Pickthall
He surely will invoke destruction
Yusuf Ali
Soon will he cry for perdition,
Shakir
He shall call for perdition,
Dr. Ghali
Then he will call for detriment,
|
Ayah 84:12 الأية
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
Wayasla saAAeera
Sahih International
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
Muhsin Khan
And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning.
Pickthall
And be thrown to scorching fire.
Yusuf Ali
And he will enter a Blazing Fire.
Shakir
And enter into burning fire.
Dr. Ghali
And he will roast at a Blaze.

Ayah 84:13 الأية
إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
Innahu kana fee ahlihi masroora
Sahih International
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
Muhsin Khan
Verily, he was among his people in joy!
Pickthall
He verily lived joyous with his folk,
Yusuf Ali
Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!
Shakir
Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers.
Dr. Ghali
Surely he (once lived) among his family, pleasured;
|
Ayah 84:14 الأية
إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
Innahu thanna an lan yahoor
Sahih International
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah ].
Muhsin Khan
Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)!
Pickthall
He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).
Yusuf Ali
Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!
Shakir
Surely he thought that he would never return.
Dr. Ghali
Surely he surmised he would never recede (Or: return).
|
Ayah 84:15 الأية
بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا
Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseera
Sahih International
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.
Muhsin Khan
Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him!
Pickthall
Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!
Yusuf Ali
Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him!
Shakir
Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him.
Dr. Ghali
Yes indeed, his Lord has been Ever-Beholding (of) him.
|
Ayah 84:16 الأية
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ
Fala oqsimu bishshafaq
Sahih International
So I swear by the twilight glow
Muhsin Khan
So I swear by the afterglow of sunset;
Pickthall
Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,
Yusuf Ali
So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;
Shakir
But nay! I swear by the sunset redness,
Dr. Ghali
Yet no! I swear by the twilight,
|
Ayah 84:17 الأية
وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
Wallayli wama wasaq
Sahih International
And [by] the night and what it envelops
Muhsin Khan
And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness;
Pickthall
And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,
Yusuf Ali
The Night and its Homing;
Shakir
And the night and that which it drives on,
Dr. Ghali
And the night and whatever load it has,
|
Ayah 84:18 الأية
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ
Walqamari itha ittasaq
Sahih International
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
Muhsin Khan
And by the moon when it is at the full,
Pickthall
And by the moon when she is at the full,
Yusuf Ali
And the Moon in her fullness:
Shakir
And the moon when it grows full,
Dr. Ghali
And the moon when it grows full-
|
Ayah 84:19 الأية
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaq
Sahih International
[That] you will surely experience state after state.
Muhsin Khan
You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the
Hereafter).
Pickthall
That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.
Yusuf Ali
Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage.
Shakir
That you shall most certainly enter one state after another.
Dr. Ghali
Indeed you will definitely ride state after state (i.e., travel from one stage
"of life" to another).

Ayah 84:20 الأية
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Fama lahum la yu/minoon
Sahih International
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
Muhsin Khan
What is the matter with them, that they believe not?
Pickthall
What aileth them, then, that they believe not
Yusuf Ali
What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?-
Shakir
But what is the matter with them that they do not believe,
Dr. Ghali
For what reason then do they not believe?
|
Ayah 84:21 الأية
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
Wa-itha quri-a AAalayhimu alqur-anula yasjudoon
Sahih International
And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah ]?
Muhsin Khan
And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate,
Pickthall
And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?
Yusuf Ali
And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,
Shakir
And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance?
Dr. Ghali
And when the Qur'an is read to them, they do not prostrate themselves?*
|
Ayah 84:22 الأية
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ
Bali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboon
Sahih International
But those who have disbelieved deny,
Muhsin Khan
Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be
upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism,
etc.).
Pickthall
Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;
Yusuf Ali
But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).
Shakir
Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth.
Dr. Ghali
No indeed, (but) the ones who have disbelieved are crying lies,
|
Ayah 84:23 الأية
وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
Wallahu aAAlamu bimayooAAoon
Sahih International
And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
Muhsin Khan
And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds),
Pickthall
And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.
Yusuf Ali
But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)
Shakir
And Allah knows best what they hide,
Dr. Ghali
And Allah knows best whatever they heedfully harbor (in their breasts).

Ayah 84:24 الأية
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
Fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleem
Sahih International
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
Muhsin Khan
So announce to them a painful torment.
Pickthall
So give them tidings of a painful doom,
Yusuf Ali
So announce to them a Penalty Grievous,
Shakir
So announce to them a painful punishment~
Dr. Ghali
So give them tidings of a painful torment,
|
Ayah 84:25 الأية
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
Illa allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati lahum ajrun ghayrumamnoon
Sahih International
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward
uninterrupted.
Muhsin Khan
Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that
will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise).
Pickthall
Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.
Yusuf Ali
Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that
will never fail.
Shakir
Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be
cut off.
Dr. Ghali
Except the ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness- they will
have a reward bountifully unfailing.
