Sahih International The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ
بِبَنِيهِ
Sahih International They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children Muhsin Khan Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. Pickthall Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children Yusuf Ali Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, Shakir (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, Dr. Ghali (As) they are made to behold them (i.e., each other). The criminal would like that he might ransom himself of the torment upon that Day (even) by his seeds, |

Sahih International It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] Muhsin Khan Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] Pickthall It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), Yusuf Ali Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). Sahih International Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - Muhsin Khan Verily! Sahih International Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - Muhsin Khan Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, Pickthall Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; Yusuf Ali Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, Shakir Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, Dr. Ghali Except with their spouses or what their right hands possess; then surely they are not blameworthy (Literally: other than being blameworthy). |

Sahih International Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure? Muhsin Khan Does every man of them hope to enter the Paradise of delight? Pickthall Doth every man among them hope to enter the Garden of Delight? Yusuf Ali Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss? Shakir Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the garden of bliss? Dr. Ghali Does every person of them long to be made to enter a Garden of Bliss? |

Sahih International So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able Muhsin Khan So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able Pickthall But nay! I swear by the Lord of the rising-places and the setting-places of the planets that We verily are Able Yusuf Ali Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly- Shakir But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able Dr. Ghali Yet no, I swear by The Lord of the easts and the wests; surely We are indeed (the) Determiners. |

Sahih International To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone. Muhsin Khan To replace them by (others) better than them; and We are not to be outrun. Pickthall To replace them by (others) better than them. And we are not to be outrun. Yusuf Ali Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan). Shakir To bring instead (others) better than them, and We shall not be overcome. Dr. Ghali To exchange a more charitable (i.e., better) (people) instead of them, and in no way will We ever be outstripped. |

Sahih International So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised - Muhsin Khan So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they meet their Day which they are promised. Pickthall So let them chat and play until they meet their Day which they are promised, Yusuf Ali So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- Shakir Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that day of theirs with which they are threatened; Dr. Ghali So leave them out to wade (Or: be engrossed "in vain talk") and play until they meet the Day of theirs which they are promised. |

Sahih International The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening. Muhsin Khan The Day when they will come out of the graves quickly as racing to a goal, Pickthall The day when they come forth from the graves in haste, as racing to a goal, Yusuf Ali The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),- Shakir The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal, Dr. Ghali The Day they will go out of the graves swiftly, as if they were rushing to a standard, |

يُوعَدُونَ
Sahih International Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised. Muhsin Khan With their eyes lowered in fear and humility, ignominy covering them (all over)! That is the Day which they were promised! Pickthall With eyes aghast, abasement stupefying them: Such is the Day which they are promised. Yusuf Ali Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised! Shakir Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with. Dr. Ghali Submissive will be their be holdings (i.e., gazes).They will be oppressed by humbleness. That is the Day which they were promised. |
