First Ayah 1 الأية الأوليبِسْم ِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا
Sahih International
By those [angels] lined up in rows
Muhsin Khan
By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows).
Pickthall
By those who set the ranks in battle order
Yusuf Ali
By those who range themselves in ranks,
Shakir
I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks
Dr. Ghali
And by those ranged in ranks ranging,
|
Ayah 37:2 الأية
فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا
Sahih International
And those who drive [the clouds]
Muhsin Khan
By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way.
Pickthall
And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof
Yusuf Ali
And so are strong in repelling (evil),
Shakir
Then those who drive away with reproof,
Dr. Ghali
Then by the scarers scaring, (This is sometimes meat that the Angles perform
such acts)

Ayah 37:3 الأية
فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا
Sahih International
And those who recite the message,
Muhsin Khan
By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir
Ibn Kathir].
Pickthall
And those who read (the Word) for a reminder,
Yusuf Ali
And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)!
Shakir
Then those who recite, being mindful,
Dr. Ghali
Then by the reciters of a Remembrance,
|
Ayah 37:4 الأية
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ
Sahih International
Indeed, your God is One,
Muhsin Khan
Verily your Ilah (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allah);
Pickthall
Lo! thy Lord is surely One;
Yusuf Ali
Verily, verily, your Allah is one!-
Shakir
Most surely your Allah is One:
Dr. Ghali
Surely your God is indeed One,

Ayah 37:5 الأية
رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ
Sahih International
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the
sunrises.
Muhsin Khan
Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of
every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but
Allah).
Pickthall
Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of
the sun's risings.
Yusuf Ali
Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every
point at the rising of the sun!
Shakir
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the
easts.
Dr. Ghali
The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them both and The
Lord of the easts.

Ayah 37:6 الأية
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ
Sahih International
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
Muhsin Khan
Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty).
Pickthall
Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets;
Yusuf Ali
We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-
Shakir
Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars,
Dr. Ghali
Surely We have adorned the lowest heaven with an adornment, the planets,
|
Ayah 37:7 الأية
وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ
Sahih International
And as protection against every rebellious devil
Muhsin Khan
And to guard against every rebellious devil.
Pickthall
With security from every froward devil.
Yusuf Ali
(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,
Shakir
And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan.
Dr. Ghali
And (as) a preservation against every insurgent Shatan. (Ever vicious (one),
i.e., devil).

Ayah 37:8 الأية
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ
Sahih International
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from
every side,
Muhsin Khan
They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every
side.
Pickthall
They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side,
Yusuf Ali
(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly
but be cast away from every side,
Shakir
They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every
side,
Dr. Ghali
They do not overhear the most Exalted Chiefs, (i.e., angels) and they are pelted
(with hurled meteors) from every side,

Ayah 37:9 الأية
دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ
Sahih International
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
Muhsin Khan
Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment.
Pickthall
Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment;
Yusuf Ali
Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,
Shakir
Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement,
Dr. Ghali
Rejected, and they will have a lasting torment,

Ayah 37:10 الأية
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ
Sahih International
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning
flame, piercing [in brightness].
Muhsin Khan
Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a
flaming fire of piercing brightness.
Pickthall
Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame.
Yusuf Ali
Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a
flaming fire, of piercing brightness.
Shakir
Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining
flame.
Dr. Ghali
Except him who snatches a snatching (away); then a piercing flaming (meteor)
follows him up.

Ayah 37:11 الأية
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم
مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍ
Sahih International
Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult]
creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky
clay.
Muhsin Khan
Then ask them (i.e. these polytheists, O Muhammad SAW): "Are they stronger as
creation, or those (others like the heavens and the earth and the mountains,
etc.) whom We have created?" Verily, We created them of a sticky clay.
Pickthall
Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others)
whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay.
Yusuf Ali
Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other)
beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay!
Shakir
Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We
have created. Surely We created them of firm clay.
Dr. Ghali
So ask them for a pronouncement: "Are they more valiant as a creation or the
ones We created? Surely We created them of clinging clay."

Ayah 37:12 الأية
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ
Sahih International
But you wonder, while they mock,
Muhsin Khan
Nay, you (O Muhammad SAW) wondered (at their insolence) while they mock (at you
and at the Quran).
Pickthall
Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock
Yusuf Ali
Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule,
Shakir
Nay! you wonder while they mock,
Dr. Ghali
No indeed, you wonder, and they scoff,
|
Ayah 37:13 الأية
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ
Sahih International
And when they are reminded, they remember not.
Muhsin Khan
And when they are reminded, they pay no attention.
Pickthall
And heed not when they are reminded,
Yusuf Ali
And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,-
Shakir
And when they are reminded, they mind not,
Dr. Ghali
And when they are reminded, they do not remember.

Ayah 37:14 الأية
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
Sahih International
And when they see a sign, they ridicule
Muhsin Khan
And when they see an Ayah (a sign, a proof, or an evidence) from Allah, they
mock at it.
Pickthall
And seek to scoff when they behold a portent.
Yusuf Ali
And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery,
Shakir
And when they see a sign they incite one another to scoff,
Dr. Ghali
And when they see a sign, they turn it to scoffing.

Ayah 37:15 الأية
وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ
Sahih International
And say, "This is not but obvious magic.
Muhsin Khan
And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic!
Pickthall
And they say: Lo! this is mere magic;
Yusuf Ali
And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery!
Shakir
And they say: This is nothing but clear magic:
Dr. Ghali
And they have said, "Decidedly this is nothing except an evident sorcery.

Ayah 37:16 الأية
أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
Sahih International
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
Muhsin Khan
"When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) verily be
resurrected?
Pickthall
When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be
raised (again)?
Yusuf Ali
"What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up
(again)
Shakir
What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly
be raised,
Dr. Ghali
When we die and are dust and bones, will we surely be made to rise again indeed?

Ayah 37:17 الأية
أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
Sahih International
And our forefathers [as well]?"
Muhsin Khan
"And also our fathers of old?"
Pickthall
And our forefathers?
Yusuf Ali
"And also our fathers of old?"
Shakir
Or our fathers of yore?
Dr. Ghali
And our earliest fathers?"

Ayah 37:18 الأية
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ
Sahih International
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."
Muhsin Khan
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Yes, and you shall then be humiliated."
Pickthall
Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low.
Yusuf Ali
Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)."
Shakir
Say: Aye! and you shall be abject.
Dr. Ghali
Say, "Yes, and you will be (utterly) abject."

Ayah 37:19 الأية
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
Sahih International
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
Muhsin Khan
It will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e. the second blowing of the Trumpet)], and
behold, they will be staring!
Pickthall
There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold,
Yusuf Ali
Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see!
Shakir
So it shall only be a single cry, when lo! they shall see.
Dr. Ghali
So, surely it is only one scaring, then only then, they are looking on.

Ayah 37:20 الأية
وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
Sahih International
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
Muhsin Khan
They will say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense!"
Pickthall
And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment.
Yusuf Ali
They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!"
Shakir
And they shall say: O woe to us! this is the day of requital.
Dr. Ghali
And they say, "oh woe to us! This is the Day of Doom." (Or: Judgment; Religion)

Ayah 37:21 الأية
هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Sahih International
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
Muhsin Khan
(It will be said): "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
Pickthall
This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny.
Yusuf Ali
(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once)
denied!"
Shakir
This is the day of the judgment which you called a lie.
Dr. Ghali
This is the Day of Verdict, which you used to cry lies to.

Ayah 37:22 الأية
احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ
Sahih International
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds,
and what they used to worship
Muhsin Khan
(It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with
their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship.
Pickthall
(And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with
their wives and what they used to worship
Yusuf Ali
"Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the
things they worshipped-
Shakir
Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used
to worship
Dr. Ghali
Muster the ones who did injustice, and their spouses, and whatever they were
worshiping.

Ayah 37:23 الأية
مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
Other than Allah , and guide them to the path of Hellfire
Muhsin Khan
"Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell);
Pickthall
Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell;
Yusuf Ali
"Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire!
Shakir
Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell.
Dr. Ghali
Apart from Allah, and so guide them to the path of Hell-Fire.

Ayah 37:24 الأية
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْئُولُونَ
Sahih International
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."
Muhsin Khan
"But stop them, verily they are to be questioned.
Pickthall
And stop them, for they must be questioned.
Yusuf Ali
"But stop them, for they must be asked:
Shakir
And stop them, for they shall be questioned:
Dr. Ghali
And bid them stand; surely they are to be questioned,
|
Ayah 37:25 الأية
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
Sahih International
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each
other?"
Muhsin Khan
"What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do
in the world)?"
Pickthall
What aileth you that ye help not one another?
Yusuf Ali
"'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'"
Shakir
What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?
Dr. Ghali
How is it that you do not vindicate one another?
|
Ayah 37:26 الأية
بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ
Sahih International
But they, that Day, are in surrender.
Muhsin Khan
Nay, but that Day they shall surrender,
Pickthall
Nay, but this day they make full submission.
Yusuf Ali
Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment);
Shakir
Nay! on that day they shall be submissive.
Dr. Ghali
No indeed; (but) they are today submitting themselves.

Ayah 37:27 الأية
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Sahih International
And they will approach one another blaming each other.
Muhsin Khan
And they will turn to one another and question one another.
Pickthall
And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
Yusuf Ali
And they will turn to one another, and question one another.
Shakir
And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other.
Dr. Ghali
And some of them come forward to others, (Literally: some (others) asking one
another (questions).

Ayah 37:28 الأية
قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ
Sahih International
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."
Muhsin Khan
They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from
the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for
polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every
good deed]."
Pickthall
They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the
truth).
Yusuf Ali
They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power
and authority)!"
Shakir
They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side.
Dr. Ghali
They (The seduced) say, "Surely you used to come up to us from the right hand."
(i.e. with the Truth).

Ayah 37:29 الأية
قَالُوا بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ
Sahih International
The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
Muhsin Khan
They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers.
Pickthall
They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers.
Yusuf Ali
They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith!
Shakir
They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers;
Dr. Ghali
They say, "No indeed, but you were not believers.
|
Ayah 37:30 الأية
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ
Sahih International
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
Muhsin Khan
"And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people
(disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers).
Pickthall
We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk.
Yusuf Ali
"Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in
obstinate rebellion!
Shakir
And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people;
Dr. Ghali
And in no way did we have any all- binding authority over you; no indeed, (but)
you were an inordinate people."

Ayah 37:31 الأية
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ
Sahih International
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste
[punishment].
Muhsin Khan
"So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall
certainly (have to) taste (the torment).
Pickthall
Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to
taste (the doom).
Yusuf Ali
"So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall
indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins).
Shakir
So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely
taste;
Dr. Ghali
"So, our Lord's Word (Literally: Saying) has come true against us; surely we are
indeed tasting (it).

Ayah 37:32 الأية
فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ
Sahih International
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
Muhsin Khan
"So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray."
Pickthall
Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray.
Yusuf Ali
"We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray."
Shakir
So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring.
Dr. Ghali
So we have misguided you; surely we were (ourselves) misguided."

Ayah 37:33 الأية
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ
Sahih International
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
Muhsin Khan
Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment.
Pickthall
Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom.
Yusuf Ali
Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty.
Shakir
So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another.
Dr. Ghali
So, upon that Day, surely they are partners in the torment.

Ayah 37:34 الأية
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
Muhsin Khan
Certainly, that is how We deal with Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners,
criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.).
Pickthall
Lo! thus deal We with the guilty.
Yusuf Ali
Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners.
Shakir
Surely thus do We deal with the guilty.
Dr. Ghali
Surely thus We perform against the criminals.
|
Ayah 37:35 الأية
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
Sahih International
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah ," were
arrogant
Muhsin Khan
Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be
worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it).
Pickthall
For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful
Yusuf Ali
For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff
themselves up with Pride,
Shakir
Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but
Allah;
Dr. Ghali
Surely when it was said to them, "There is no god except Allah, " they were
waxing proud.
|
Ayah 37:36 الأية
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍ
Sahih International
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
Muhsin Khan
And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad
poet?
Pickthall
And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet?
Yusuf Ali
And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?"
Shakir
And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet?
Dr. Ghali
And they said, "Shall we surely be leaving indeed our gods for a mad poet?"
|
Ayah 37:37 الأية
بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Sahih International
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous]
messengers.
Muhsin Khan
Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allah's Religion - Islamic
Monotheism and this Quran) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who
brought Allah's religion - Islamic Monotheism).
Pickthall
Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him).
Yusuf Ali
Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the
messengers (before him).
Shakir
Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the messengers.
Dr. Ghali
No indeed, (but) he has come with the Truth and has sincere (faith) in the
Emissaries.
|
Ayah 37:38 الأية
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ
Sahih International
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
Muhsin Khan
Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment;
Pickthall
Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom -
Yusuf Ali
Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;-
Shakir
Most surely you will taste the painful punishment.
Dr. Ghali
Surely you will indeed be tasting the painful torment;
|
Ayah 37:39 الأية
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Sahih International
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
Muhsin Khan
And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds,
sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world);
Pickthall
Ye are requited naught save what ye did -
Yusuf Ali
But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;-
Shakir
And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did.
Dr. Ghali
And in no way will you be recompensed, except according to whatever you were
doing.

Ayah 37:40 الأية
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Sahih International
But not the chosen servants of Allah .
Muhsin Khan
Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic
Monotheism).
Pickthall
Save single-minded slaves of Allah;
Yusuf Ali
But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,-
Shakir
Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Dr. Ghali
Except for the most faithful bondmen of Allah.

Ayah 37:41 الأية
أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
Sahih International
Those will have a provision determined -
Muhsin Khan
For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise).

For them there is a known provision,

For them is a Sustenance determined,

For them is a known sustenance,

For those there is a known provision-

Ayah 37:42 الأية
فَوَاكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ

Fruits; and they will be honored

Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity,

Ayah 37:44 الأية
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
Sahih International
On thrones facing one another.

Facing one another on thrones,

On couches facing one another;

Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity):

On thrones, facing each other.

On settees, facing one another.

Ayah 37:45 الأية
يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
Sahih International
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,

Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine;

A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them,

Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain,

A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs,

A cup from a profuse (spring) is passed round for them-

Ayah 37:46 الأية
بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّارِبِينَ
Sahih International
White and delicious to the drinkers;

White, delicious to the drinkers,

White, delicious to the drinkers,

Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof),

White, delicious to those who drink.
Dr. Ghali
White, delicious to the drinkers-

Ayah 37:47 الأية
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ
Sahih International
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
Muhsin Khan
Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin,
etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.
Pickthall
Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby.
Yusuf Ali
Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.
Shakir
There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith.
Dr. Ghali
Wherein there is no insobriety, (Or: havoc, danger) nor are they exhausted (Or:
inebriated) thereby.

Ayah 37:48 الأية
وَعِندَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ
Sahih International
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful]
eyes,

And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none
except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes.
Pickthall
And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes,
Yusuf Ali
And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes
(of wonder and beauty).
Shakir
And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes;
Dr. Ghali
And in their presence are wide-eyed (maidens), restraining their glances.

Ayah 37:49 الأية
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ
Sahih International
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
Muhsin Khan
(Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved.
Pickthall
(Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich).
Yusuf Ali
As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded.
Shakir
As if they were eggs carefully protected.
Dr. Ghali
As if they were white nestled (jewels).

Ayah 37:50 الأية
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Sahih International
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
Muhsin Khan
Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning.
Pickthall
And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
Yusuf Ali
Then they will turn to one another and question one another.
Shakir
Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other.
Dr. Ghali
So some of them come forward to others, (Literally: some (others) asking one
another (questions).

Ayah 37:51 الأية
قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ
Sahih International
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
Muhsin Khan
A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world),
Pickthall
A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade
Yusuf Ali
One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the
earth),
Shakir
A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine,
Dr. Ghali
A speaker of them says, "Surely I used to have a comrade.

Ayah 37:52 الأية
يَقُولُ أَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ
Sahih International
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
Muhsin Khan
Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death).
Pickthall
Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)?
Yusuf Ali
"Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth
(of the Message)?
Shakir
Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)?
Dr. Ghali
He (always) said, Are you surely of the ones who indeed count it sincerely
(verified)?

Ayah 37:53 الأية
أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ
Sahih International
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be
recompensed?'"
Muhsin Khan
"(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to
receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?"
Pickthall
Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then)
verily be brought to book?
Yusuf Ali
"'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and
punishments?'"
Shakir
What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be
certainly brought to judgment?
Dr. Ghali
When we die and are dust and bones, will we surely be doomed (Or: judged)
indeed?"

Ayah 37:54 الأية
قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ
Sahih International
He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"
Muhsin Khan
(The man) said: "Will you look down?"
Pickthall
He saith: Will ye look?
Yusuf Ali
(A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?"
Shakir
He shall say: Will you look on?
Dr. Ghali
He says, "Are you (all) viewing (him)?"

Ayah 37:55 الأية
فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.
Muhsin Khan
So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.
Pickthall
Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell.
Yusuf Ali
He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.
Shakir
Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell.
Dr. Ghali
So he views (him), and then sees him in the (deepest) level of the Hell-Fire.

Ayah 37:56 الأية
قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ
Sahih International
He will say, "By Allah , you almost ruined me.
Muhsin Khan
He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me.
Pickthall
He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin,
Yusuf Ali
He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition!
Shakir
He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish;
Dr. Ghali
He says, "By Allah, (The Arabic is ta-llahi; which a stronger oath than the more
usual wa-llahi) decidedly you were almost about to topple me down indeed.

Ayah 37:57 الأية
وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ
Sahih International
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to
Hell].
Muhsin Khan
"Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among
those brought forth (to Hell)."
Pickthall
And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled
forth (to doom).
Yusuf Ali
"Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among
those brought (there)!
Shakir
And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among
those brought up.
Dr. Ghali
And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, indeed I would have been among the
ones presented forward.

Ayah 37:58 الأية
أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ
Sahih International
Then, are we not to die
Muhsin Khan
(Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die
(any more)?

Are we then not to die
Yusuf Ali
"Is it (the case) that we shall not die,
Shakir
Is it then that we are not going to die,
Dr. Ghali
Then in no way will we be dead,

Ayah 37:59 الأية
إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
Sahih International
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"

"Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered
Paradise)."
Pickthall
Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished?
Yusuf Ali
"Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?"
Shakir
Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised?
Dr. Ghali
Except for our first death, and in no way will we be tormented?

Ayah 37:60 الأية
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
Sahih International
Indeed, this is the great attainment.

Truly, this is the supreme success!
Pickthall
Lo! this is the supreme triumph.
Yusuf Ali
Verily this is the supreme achievement!
Shakir
Most surely this is the mighty achievement.
Dr. Ghali
Surely this is indeed that which is magnificent triumph;

Ayah 37:61 الأية
لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ
Sahih International
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.

For the like of this let the workers work.
Pickthall
For the like of this, then, let the workers work.
Yusuf Ali
For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive.
Shakir
For the like of this then let the workers work.
Dr. Ghali
For the like of this let the doers do (good deeds)."

Ayah 37:62 الأية
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ
Sahih International
Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
Muhsin Khan
Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree
in Hell)?
Pickthall
Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?
Yusuf Ali
Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum?
Shakir
Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum?
Dr. Ghali
Is this a more charitable (i.e., better) hospitality, or even the Tree of
Az-Zaqqum?

Ayah 37:63 الأية
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّالِمِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
Muhsin Khan
Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers,
wrong-doers, etc.).
Pickthall
Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers.
Yusuf Ali
For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers.
Shakir
Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust.
Dr. Ghali
Surely We have made it as a temptation (Or: trial) for the unjust.

Ayah 37:64 الأية
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
Muhsin Khan
Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire,
Pickthall
Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.
Yusuf Ali
For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire:
Shakir
Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell;
Dr. Ghali
Surely it is a tree that comes out (Literally: goes out) in the root of
Hell-Fire;

Ayah 37:65 الأية
طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ
Sahih International
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
Muhsin Khan
The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils);
Pickthall
Its crop is as it were the heads of devils
Yusuf Ali
The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:
Shakir
Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents.
Dr. Ghali
Its spathes are as the heads of Shayatun. (Ever-vicious (ones), i.e., devils)

Ayah 37:66 الأية
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
Sahih International
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
Muhsin Khan
Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.
Pickthall
And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith.
Yusuf Ali
Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.
Shakir
Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it.
Dr. Ghali
Then surely they will indeed be eating of it, and so of it they will be filling
their bellies.

Ayah 37:67 الأية
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
Sahih International
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
Muhsin Khan
Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it
becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies).
Pickthall
And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water
Yusuf Ali
Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water.
Shakir
Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in
boiling water.
Dr. Ghali
Thereafter on top of it surely they will have indeed an admixture of scalding
(water),

Ayah 37:68 الأية
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
Muhsin Khan
Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell.
Pickthall
And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell.
Yusuf Ali
Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire.
Shakir
Then most surely their return shall be to hell.
Dr. Ghali
Thereafter surely their return indeed is to Hell-Fire.

Ayah 37:69 الأية
إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءَهُمْ ضَالِّينَ
Sahih International
Indeed they found their fathers astray.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path;
Pickthall
They indeed found their fathers astray,
Yusuf Ali
Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path;
Shakir
Surely they found their fathers going astray,
Dr. Ghali
Surely they came upon their fathers erring,

Ayah 37:70 الأية
فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ
Sahih International
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
Muhsin Khan
So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps!
Pickthall
But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.
Yusuf Ali
So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps!
Shakir
So in their footsteps they are being hastened on.
Dr. Ghali
So they are made to hurry in their tracks.

Ayah 37:71 الأية
وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Sahih International
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,

And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them;

And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,
Yusuf Ali
And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;-
Shakir
And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them,
Dr. Ghali
And indeed before them already erred away most of the earliest (people),

Ayah 37:72 الأية
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ
Sahih International
And We had already sent among them warners.

And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers);
Pickthall
And verily We sent among them warners.
Yusuf Ali
But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;-
Shakir
And certainly We sent among them warners.
Dr. Ghali
And indeed We already sent among them warners.

Ayah 37:73 الأية
فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
Sahih International
Then look how was the end of those who were warned -

Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not).

Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned,
Yusuf Ali
Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),-

Then see how was the end of those warned,

So look into how was the end of the warned people,

Ayah 37:74 الأية
إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Sahih International
But not the chosen servants of Allah .
Muhsin Khan
Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of
Islamic Monotheism).
Pickthall
Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
Yusuf Ali
Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah.
Shakir
Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
Dr. Ghali
Except for the most faithful bondmen of Allah.

Ayah 37:75 الأية
وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ
Sahih International
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
Muhsin Khan
And indeed Nuh (Noah) invoked Us, and We are the Best of those who answer (the
request).
Pickthall
And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer
Yusuf Ali
(In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer.
Shakir
And Nuh did certainly call upon Us, and most excellent answerer of prayer are
We.
Dr. Ghali
And indeed, Nuh (Noah) already called out to Us; (i.e., Allah, through the
Angels) so how excellent indeed were The Answerers!

Ayah 37:76 الأية
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ
Sahih International
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
Muhsin Khan
And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (i.e. drowning),
Pickthall
And We saved him and his household from the great distress,
Yusuf Ali
And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity,
Shakir
And We delivered him and his followers from the mighty distress.
Dr. Ghali
And We safely delivered him and his family from the tremendous agony;
|
Ayah 37:77 الأية
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ
Sahih International
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
Muhsin Khan
And, his progeny, them We made the survivors (i.e. Shem, Ham and Japheth).
Pickthall
And made his seed the survivors,
Yusuf Ali
And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);
Shakir
And We made his offspring the survivors.
Dr. Ghali
And We made his offspring the ones who are the (enduring) survivors;

Ayah 37:78 الأية
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Sahih International
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Muhsin Khan
And left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations to come in later
times:
Pickthall
And left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Yusuf Ali
And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times:
Shakir
And We perpetuated to him (praise) among the later generations.
Dr. Ghali
And We have left for him (honor) among the later (generations):

Ayah 37:79 الأية
سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ
Sahih International
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
Muhsin Khan
Salamun (peace) be upon Nuh (Noah) (from Us) among the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns
and all that exists)!"
Pickthall
Peace be unto Noah among the peoples!
Yusuf Ali
"Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"
Shakir
Peace and salutation to Nuh among the nations.
Dr. Ghali
Peace be upon Nuh (Noah) among the worlds!

Ayah 37:80 الأية
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).
Pickthall
Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Yusuf Ali
Thus indeed do we reward those who do right.
Shakir
Thus do We surely reward the doers of good.
Dr. Ghali
Surely thus do We recompense the fair-doers.

Ayah 37:81 الأية
إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, he [Nuh (Noah) ] was one of Our believing slaves.
Pickthall
Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.
Yusuf Ali
For he was one of our believing Servants.
Shakir
Surely he was of Our believing servants.
Dr. Ghali
Surely he is among Our believing bondmen.

Ayah 37:82 الأية
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Sahih International
Then we drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers]
Muhsin Khan
Then We drowned the other (disbelievers and polytheists, etc.).
Pickthall
Then We did drown the others.
Yusuf Ali
Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood.
Shakir
Then We drowned the others
Dr. Ghali
Thereafter We drowned the others.

Ayah 37:83 الأية
وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ
Sahih International
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,

And, verily, among those who followed his [Nuh's (Noah)] way (Islamic
Monotheism) was Ibrahim (Abraham).
Pickthall
And lo! of his persuasion verily was Abraham
Yusuf Ali
Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham.

And most surely Ibrahim followed his way.
Dr. Ghali
And surely of his sect indeed was Ibrahim (Abraham)

Ayah 37:84 الأية
إِذْ جَاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Sahih International
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
Muhsin Khan
When he came to his Lord with a pure heart [attached to Allah Alone and none
else, worshipping none but Allah Alone true Islamic Monotheism, pure from the
filth of polytheism].
Pickthall
When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart;
Yusuf Ali
Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart.
Shakir
When he came to his Lord with a free heart,
Dr. Ghali
As he came to his Lord with a sound heart,
|
Ayah 37:85 الأية
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ
Sahih International
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
Muhsin Khan
When he said to his father and to his people: "What is it that which you
worship?
Pickthall
When he said unto his father and his folk: What is it that ye worship?
Yusuf Ali
Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship?
Shakir
When he said to his father and his people: What is it that you worship?
Dr. Ghali
As he said to his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?

Ayah 37:86 الأية
أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
Sahih International
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire?
Muhsin Khan
"Is it a falsehood aliha (gods) other than Allah that you seek?
Pickthall
Is it a falsehood - gods beside Allah - that ye desire?
Yusuf Ali
"Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire?
Shakir
A lie-- gods besides Allah-- do you desire?
Dr. Ghali
Is it a falsehood, gods apart from Allah, that you are willing (to worship)?

Ayah 37:87 الأية
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Sahih International
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
Muhsin Khan
"Then what do you think about the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all
that exists)?"
Pickthall
What then is your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?
Yusuf Ali
"Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?"
Shakir
What is then your idea about the Lord of the worlds?
Dr. Ghali
What then is your expectation from The Lord of the worlds?"

Ayah 37:88 الأية
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ
Sahih International
And he cast a look at the stars
Muhsin Khan
Then he cast a glance at the stars (to deceive them),
Pickthall
And he glanced a glance at the stars
Yusuf Ali
Then did he cast a glance at the Stars.
Shakir
Then he looked at the stars, looking up once,
Dr. Ghali
So he looked a look (i.e., gazed at the stars) at the stars,

Ayah 37:89 الأية
فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ
Sahih International
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
Muhsin Khan
And he said: "Verily, I am sick (with plague. He did this trick to remain in
their temple of idols to destroy them and not to accompany them to the pagan's
feast)."
Pickthall
Then said: Lo! I feel sick!
Yusuf Ali
And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!"
Shakir
Then he said: Surely I am sick (of your worshipping these).
Dr. Ghali
Yet he said, "Surely I am ailing."

Ayah 37:90 الأية
فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ
Sahih International
So they turned away from him, departing.
Muhsin Khan
So they turned away from him, and departed (for fear of the disease).
Pickthall
And they turned their backs and went away from him.
Yusuf Ali
So they turned away from him, and departed.
Shakir
So they went away from him, turning back.
Dr. Ghali
Then they turned away from him, withdrawing.

Ayah 37:91 الأية
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ
Sahih International
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?
Muhsin Khan
Then he turned to their aliha (gods) and said: "Will you not eat (of the
offering before you)?
Pickthall
Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat?
Yusuf Ali
Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings
before you)?...
Shakir
Then he turned aside to their gods secretly and said: What! do you not eat?
Dr. Ghali
So he went apart to their gods; then he said, "Will you not eat?

Ayah 37:92 الأية
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
Sahih International
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"
Muhsin Khan
"What is the matter with you that you speak not?"
Pickthall
What aileth you that ye speak not?
Yusuf Ali
"What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?"
Shakir
What is the matter with you that you do not speak?
Dr. Ghali
How is it with you that you do not pronounce (a word)

Ayah 37:93 الأية
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ
Sahih International
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
Muhsin Khan
Then he turned upon them, striking (them) with (his) right hand.
Pickthall
Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.
Yusuf Ali
Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand.
Shakir
Then he turned against them secretly, smiting them with the right hand.
Dr. Ghali
So he went apart upon them (i.e., their idols) striking with his right hand.

Ayah 37:94 الأية
فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ
Sahih International
Then the people came toward him, hastening.
Muhsin Khan
Then they (the worshippers of idols) came, towards him, hastening.
Pickthall
And (his people) came toward him, hastening.
Yusuf Ali
Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him).
Shakir
So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening.
Dr. Ghali
Then they (i.e., the disbelievers) came forward to him in a hurried procession.

Ayah 37:95 الأية
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ
Sahih International
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
Muhsin Khan
He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve?
Pickthall
He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve
Yusuf Ali
He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved?
Shakir
Said he: What! do you worship what you hew out?
Dr. Ghali
He said, "Do you worship what you hew,

Ayah 37:96 الأية
وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
Sahih International
While Allah created you and that which you do?"
Muhsin Khan
"While Allah has created you and what you make!"
Pickthall
When Allah hath created you and what ye make?
Yusuf Ali
"But Allah has created you and your handwork!"
Shakir
And Allah has created you and what you make.
Dr. Ghali
And Allah created you and whatever you do?

Ayah 37:97 الأية
قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."
Muhsin Khan
They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a
furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!"
Pickthall
They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire.
Yusuf Ali
They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!"
Shakir
They said: Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire.
Dr. Ghali
They said, "Build him a structure, (and) then cast him in the Hell-Fire."

Ayah 37:98 الأية
فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ
Sahih International
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.
Muhsin Khan
So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.
Pickthall
And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost.
Yusuf Ali
(This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the
ones most humiliated!
Shakir
And they desired a war against him, but We brought them low.
Dr. Ghali
So they were willing to devise a plot against him; yet We made them the basest.

Ayah 37:99 الأية
وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ
Sahih International
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He
will guide me.
Muhsin Khan
And he said (after his rescue from the fire): "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He
will guide me!"
Pickthall
And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me.
Yusuf Ali
He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!
Shakir
And he said: Surely I fly to my lord; He will guide me.
Dr. Ghali
And he said, "Surely I am going to my Lord, soon He will guide me.

Ayah 37:100 الأية
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Sahih International
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
Muhsin Khan
"My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous."
Pickthall
My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous.
Yusuf Ali
"O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"
Shakir
My Lord! grant me of the doers of good deeds.
Dr. Ghali
Lord! Bestow upon me one of the righteous."

Ayah 37:101 الأية
فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَلِيمٍ
Sahih International
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
Muhsin Khan
So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy.
Pickthall
So We gave him tidings of a gentle son.
Yusuf Ali
So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear.
Shakir
So We gave him the good news of a boy, possessing forbearance.
Dr. Ghali
So We gave him the good tidings of a forbearing youth.

Ayah 37:102 الأية
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ
أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ
ۖ سَتَجِدُنِي إِن شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ
Sahih International
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I
have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He
said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills,
of the steadfast."
Muhsin Khan
And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I
have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offer you in sacrifice to
Allah), so look what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are
commanded, Insha' Allah (if Allah will), you shall find me of As-Sabirin (the
patient ones, etc.)."
Pickthall
And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear
son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest
thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing,
thou shalt find me of the steadfast.
Yusuf Ali
Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O
my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy
view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find
me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!"
Shakir
And when he attained to working with him, he said: O my son! surely I have seen
in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what you see. He said: O
my father! do what you are commanded; if Allah please, you will find me of the
patient ones.
Dr. Ghali
Then when he (His son) reached the age of endeavoring with him, he said, "O my
son, surely I see in a dream (Literally: time of sleeping) that I should slay
you; so, look, what do you see?" He said, "O my (dear) father, perform whatever
you are commanded; you will soon find me, in case Allah (so) decides, among the
patient."

Ayah 37:103 الأية
فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ
Sahih International
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
Muhsin Khan
Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allah), and he had
laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for
slaughtering);
Pickthall
Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon
his face,
Yusuf Ali
So when they had both submitted their wills (to Allah), and he had laid him
prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice),
Shakir
So when they both submitted and he threw him down upon his forehead,
Dr. Ghali
So, as soon as they had both surrendered, and he dashed him upon his brow.

Ayah 37:104 الأية
وَنَادَيْنَاهُ أَن يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ
Sahih International
We called to him, "O Abraham,
Muhsin Khan
And We called out to him: "O Abraham!
Pickthall
We called unto him: O Abraham!
Yusuf Ali
We called out to him "O Abraham!
Shakir
And We called out to him saying: O Ibrahim!
Dr. Ghali
And We called out to him (saying), "O Ibrahim, (Abraham).

Ayah 37:105 الأية
قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّؤْيَا ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Sahih International
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Muhsin Khan
You have fulfilled the dream (vision)!" Verily! Thus do We reward the Muhsinun
(good-doers - see V.2:112).
Pickthall
Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good.
Yusuf Ali
"Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who
do right.
Shakir
You have indeed shown the truth of the vision; surely thus do We reward the
doers of good:
Dr. Ghali
you have already sincerely (believed) in the vision; surely thus We recompense
the fair-doers.

Ayah 37:106 الأية
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلَاءُ الْمُبِينُ
Sahih International
Indeed, this was the clear trial.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial
Pickthall
Lo! that verily was a clear test.
Yusuf Ali
For this was obviously a trial-
Shakir
Most surely this is a manifest trial.
Dr. Ghali
Surely this is indeed what is the evident trial."

Ayah 37:107 الأية
وَفَدَيْنَاهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ
Sahih International
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
Muhsin Khan
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. a ram);
Pickthall
Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim.
Yusuf Ali
And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice:
Shakir
And We ransomed him with a Feat sacrifice.
Dr. Ghali
And We ransomed him with a magnificent slain (sacrifice).

Ayah 37:108 الأية
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Sahih International
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Muhsin Khan
And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later
times.
Pickthall
And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
Yusuf Ali
And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times:
Shakir
And We perpetuated (praise) to him among the later generations.
Dr. Ghali
And We have left for him among the later generations,

Ayah 37:109 الأية
سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Sahih International
"Peace upon Abraham."
Muhsin Khan
Salamun (peace) be upon Ibrahim (Abraham)!"
Pickthall
Peace be unto Abraham!
Yusuf Ali
"Peace and salutation to Abraham!"
Shakir
Peace be on Ibrahim.
Dr. Ghali
"Peace be upon Ibrahim." (Abraham)

Ayah 37:110 الأية
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Muhsin Khan
Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).
Pickthall
Thus do We reward the good.
Yusuf Ali
Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.
Shakir
Thus do We reward the doers of good.
Dr. Ghali
Thus We recompense the fair-doers;

Ayah 37:111 الأية
إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Sahih International
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves.
Pickthall
Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.
Yusuf Ali
For he was one of our believing Servants.
Shakir
Surely he was one of Our believing servants.
Dr. Ghali
Surely he is one of Our believing bondmen.

Ayah 37:112 الأية
وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِإِسْحَاقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Sahih International
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
Muhsin Khan
And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac) a Prophet from the
righteous.
Pickthall
And we gave him tidings of the birth of Isaac, a prophet of the righteous.
Yusuf Ali
And We gave him the good news of Isaac - a prophet,- one of the Righteous.
Shakir
And We gave him the good news of Ishaq, a prophet among the good ones.
Dr. Ghali
And We gave him the good tidings of Ishaq, (Isaac) a Prophet, one of the
righteous.

Ayah 37:113 الأية
وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ إِسْحَاقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ
وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٌ
Sahih International
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good
and the clearly unjust to himself.
Muhsin Khan
We blessed him and Ishaque (Isaac), and of their progeny are (some) that do
right, and some that plainly wrong themselves.
Pickthall
And We blessed him and Isaac. And of their seed are some who do good, and some
who plainly wrong themselves.
Yusuf Ali
We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and
(some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls.
Shakir
And We showered Our blessings on him and on Ishaq; and of their offspring are
the doers of good, and (also) those who are clearly unjust to their own souls.
Dr. Ghali
And We blessed him and Ishaq, and of their (The pronoun is dual; i.e., offspring
of the two of them) offspring some are fair-doers, and (some) are evidently
unjust to themselves.

Ayah 37:114 الأية
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ
Sahih International
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.
Muhsin Khan
And, indeed We gave Our Grace to Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron).
Pickthall
And We verily gave grace unto Moses and Aaron,
Yusuf Ali
Again (of old) We bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron,
Shakir
And certainly We conferred a favor on Musa and Haroun.
Dr. Ghali
And indeed We were already bounteous to Musa (Moses) and Harun. (Aron)

Ayah 37:115 الأية
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ
Sahih International
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
Muhsin Khan
And We saved them and their people from the great distress;
Pickthall
And saved them and their people from the great distress,
Yusuf Ali
And We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity;
Shakir
And We delivered them both and their people from the mighty distress.
Dr. Ghali
And We safely delivered them both and their people from the tremendous agony.

Ayah 37:116 الأية
وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ
Sahih International
And We supported them so it was they who overcame.
Muhsin Khan
And helped them, so that they became the victors;
Pickthall
And helped them so that they became the victors.
Yusuf Ali
And We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles);
Shakir
And We helped them, so they were the vanquishers.
Dr. Ghali
And We granted them victory, so that they were the ones (who were) overcomers;

Ayah 37:117 الأية
وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَبِينَ
Sahih International
And We gave them the explicit Scripture,

And We gave them the clear Scripture;

And We gave them the clear Scripture
Yusuf Ali
And We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear;
Shakir
And We gave them both the Book that made (things) clear.
Dr. Ghali
And We brought them both the Evidential Book;
