First Ayah 1 الأية الأوليبِسْم ِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَالطُّورِ
Sahih International
By the mount

By the Mount (of Revelation);

I swear by the Mountain,

And (by) At- Tur, (The Mount)

Ayah 52:2 الأية
وَكِتَابٍ مَّسْطُورٍ
Sahih International
And [by] a Book inscribed

And by the Book Inscribed.

And a Scripture inscribed
Yusuf Ali
By a Decree inscribed
Shakir
And the Book written
Dr. Ghali
And (by) a Book inscribed.

Ayah 52:3 الأية
فِي رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ
Sahih International
In parchment spread open
Muhsin Khan
In parchment unrolled.
Pickthall
On fine parchment unrolled,
Yusuf Ali
In a Scroll unfolded;
Shakir
In an outstretched fine parchment,
Dr. Ghali
In a parchment spread,

Ayah 52:4 الأية
وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ
Sahih International
And [by] the frequented House
Muhsin Khan
And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at
Makkah, continuously visited by the angels);
Pickthall
And the House frequented,
Yusuf Ali
By the much-frequented Fane;
Shakir
And the House (Kaaba) that is visited,
Dr. Ghali
And (by) the Home always frequented,

Ayah 52:5 الأية
وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ
Sahih International
And [by] the heaven raised high
Muhsin Khan
And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven).
Pickthall
And the roof exalted,
Yusuf Ali
By the Canopy Raised High;
Shakir
And the elevated canopy
Dr. Ghali
And (by) the roof upraised,

Ayah 52:6 الأية
وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ
Sahih International
And [by] the sea filled [with fire],
Muhsin Khan
And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of
Resurrection).
Pickthall
And the sea kept filled,
Yusuf Ali
And by the Ocean filled with Swell;-
Shakir
And the swollen sea
Dr. Ghali
And (by) the sea seething,
|
Ayah 52:7 الأية
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ
Sahih International
Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass,
Pickthall
Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass;
Yusuf Ali
Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;-
Shakir
Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass;
Dr. Ghali
Surely your Lord's torment is indeed befalling;

Ayah 52:8 الأية
مَّا لَهُ مِن دَافِعٍ
Sahih International
Of it there is no preventer.
Muhsin Khan
There is none that can avert it;
Pickthall
There is none that can ward it off.
Yusuf Ali
There is none can avert it;-
Shakir
There shall be none to avert it;
Dr. Ghali
In no way (can) there be any repelling.

Ayah 52:9 الأية
يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا
Sahih International
On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
Muhsin Khan
On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking,
Pickthall
On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,
Yusuf Ali
On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion.
Shakir
On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side
Dr. Ghali
The Day when the heaven whirls with (awful) whirling.

Ayah 52:10 الأية
وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا
Sahih International
And the mountains will pass on, departing -
Muhsin Khan
And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement.
Pickthall
And the mountains move away with (awful) movement,
Yusuf Ali
And the mountains will fly hither and thither.
Shakir
And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether).
Dr. Ghali
And the mountains travel with (awful) traveling.

Ayah 52:11 الأية
فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
Sahih International
Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,
Muhsin Khan
Then woe that Day to the beliers;
Pickthall
Then woe that day unto the deniers
Yusuf Ali
Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;-
Shakir
So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth),
Dr. Ghali
Then woe upon that day to the beliers.

Ayah 52:12 الأية
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ
Sahih International
Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
Muhsin Khan
Who are playing in falsehood.
Pickthall
Who play in talk of grave matters;
Yusuf Ali
That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles.
Shakir
Those who sport entering into vain discourses.
Dr. Ghali
They are the ones who play at their wading, (i.e., become absorbed)

Ayah 52:13 الأية
يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا
Sahih International
The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its
angels will say],
Muhsin Khan
The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a
horrible, forceful pushing.
Pickthall
The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell
Yusuf Ali
That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly.
Shakir
The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence.
Dr. Ghali
The Day when they are repulsed to the fire of Hell with (contemptuous)
repulsing.

Ayah 52:14 الأية
هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِي كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
Sahih International
"This is the Fire which you used to deny.
Muhsin Khan
This is the Fire which you used to belie.
Pickthall
(And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny.
Yusuf Ali
"This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny!
Shakir
This is the fire which you used to give the lie to.
Dr. Ghali
"This is the Fire that you used to cry lies to!

Ayah 52:15 الأية
أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
Sahih International
Then is this magic, or do you not see?
Muhsin Khan
Is this magic, or do you not see?
Pickthall
Is this magic, or do ye not see?
Yusuf Ali
"Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see?
Shakir
Is it magic then or do you not see?
Dr. Ghali
So, is this magic, or is it you (who) do not behold?

Ayah 52:16 الأية
اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا
تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Sahih International
[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for
you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."
Muhsin Khan
Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of
it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do.
Pickthall
Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is
all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.
Yusuf Ali
"Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or
not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds."
Shakir
Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is
the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did.
Dr. Ghali
Roast in it! So (endure) patiently (in it) or do not (endure) patiently, equal
it is to you! Surely you are only being recompensed for whatever you were
doing."

Ayah 52:17 الأية
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ
Sahih International
Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,
Muhsin Khan
Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and
Delight.
Pickthall
Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight,
Yusuf Ali
As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,-
Shakir
Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss
Dr. Ghali
Surely the pious will be in Gardens and Bliss,
|
Ayah 52:18 الأية
فَاكِهِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ
Sahih International
Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the
punishment of Hellfire.
Muhsin Khan
Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that)
their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire.
Pickthall
Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath
warded off from them the torment of hell-fire.
Yusuf Ali
Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord
shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire.
Shakir
Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from
the punishment of the burning fire.
Dr. Ghali
Jesting with what their Lord has brought them, and their Lord will protect them
from the torment of Hell-Fire__

Ayah 52:19 الأية
كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Sahih International
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
Muhsin Khan
"Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do."
Pickthall
(And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye
used to do,
Yusuf Ali
(To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of
your (good) deeds."
Shakir
Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did,
Dr. Ghali
"Eat and drink, (rejoicing) with wholesome appetite for whatever you were
doing."__

Ayah 52:20 الأية
مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
Sahih International
They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women
with large, [beautiful] eyes.
Muhsin Khan
They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry
them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes.
Pickthall
Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely
eyes.
Yusuf Ali
They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We
shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.
Shakir
Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed
beautiful ones.
Dr. Ghali
Reclining upon ranged settees. And We will marry them to wide-eyed huras.

Ayah 52:21 الأية
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَيْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ
بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ
Sahih International
And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will
join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of
their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.
Muhsin Khan
And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We
join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in
anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned.
Pickthall
And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to
join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every
man is a pledge for that which he hath earned.
Yusuf Ali
And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We
join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their
works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds.
Shakir
And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will
unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their
work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought.
Dr. Ghali
And the ones who believed, and their offspring closely followed them in belief,
We will join their offspring with them, and in no way will We withhold from them
anything of their deed (s); every person will be a constant pledge for whatever
he has earned,

Ayah 52:22 الأية
وَأَمْدَدْنَاهُم بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
Sahih International
And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.
Muhsin Khan
And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire.
Pickthall
And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire.
Yusuf Ali
And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire.
Shakir
And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire.
Dr. Ghali
And We will supply them with fruits and flesh such as they crave for.

Ayah 52:23 الأية
يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ
Sahih International
They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill
speech or commission of sin.
Muhsin Khan
There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw
(dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will
be legal for them to drink).
Pickthall
There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of
sin.
Yusuf Ali
They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity,
free of all taint of ill.
Shakir
They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing
vain nor any sin.
Dr. Ghali
Therein they will (obligingly) contend with one another cups, and there is no
idle talk, and no room for vice.

Ayah 52:24 الأية
وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ
Sahih International
There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they
were pearls well-protected.
Muhsin Khan
And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were
preserved pearls.
Pickthall
And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were
hidden pearls.
Yusuf Ali
Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome)
as Pearls well-guarded.
Shakir
And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls.
Dr. Ghali
And (there) go round them youths of their own, as if they were nestled pearl
(s);
|
Ayah 52:25 الأية
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Sahih International
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
Muhsin Khan
And some of them draw near to others, questioning.
Pickthall
And some of them draw near unto others, questioning,
Yusuf Ali
They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry.
Shakir
And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other.
Dr. Ghali
And some of them come forward to others, asking one another (Literally: some
(others) (questions).

Ayah 52:26 الأية
قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ
Sahih International
They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of
displeasing Allah ].
Muhsin Khan
Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of
Allah).
Pickthall
Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious;
Yusuf Ali
They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people.
Shakir
Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families:
Dr. Ghali
They say, "Surely we were before among our families, (feeling) timorous;
|
Ayah 52:27 الأية
فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ
Sahih International
So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the
Scorching Fire.
Muhsin Khan
"But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the
Fire.
Pickthall
But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of
the breath of Fire.
Yusuf Ali
"But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the
Scorching Wind.
Shakir
But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the
hot wind:
Dr. Ghali
Then Allah was bounteous to us, and protected us from the torment of the
Pestilential Wind.

Ayah 52:28 الأية
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ
Sahih International
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the
Beneficent, the Merciful."
Muhsin Khan
"Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is
Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful."
Pickthall
Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali
"Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the
Merciful!"
Shakir
Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful.
Dr. Ghali
Surely we used earlier to invoke Him; surely He, Ever He, is The Ever-Benign,
The Ever-Merciful."
|
Ayah 52:29 الأية
فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ
Sahih International
So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer
or a madman.
Muhsin Khan
Therefore, remind and preach (mankind, O Muhammad SAW of Islamic Monotheism). By
the Grace of Allah, you are neither a soothsayer, nor a madman.
Pickthall
Therefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither
soothsayer nor madman.
Yusuf Ali
Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord,
thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed.
Shakir
Therefore continue to remind, for by the grace of your Lord, you are not a
soothsayer, or a madman.
Dr. Ghali
Then remind! So in no way are you (The Prophet) by your Lord's favor a
soothsayer or a madman.

Ayah 52:30 الأية
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ
Sahih International
Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"
Muhsin Khan
Or do they say: "(Muhammad SAW is) a poet! We await for him some calamity by
time!
Pickthall
Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?
Yusuf Ali
Or do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!"
Shakir
Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time.
Dr. Ghali
Or even do they say, "He is a poet for whom we await the uncertainty (i.e., the
calamity of death; literally: the suspicion of fortune or fate) of fortune?"

Ayah 52:31 الأية
قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَإِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ
Sahih International
Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
Muhsin Khan
Say (O Muhammad SAW to them): "Wait! I am with you, among the waiters!"
Pickthall
Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.
Yusuf Ali
Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!"
Shakir
Say: Wait, for surely I too with you am of those who wait.
Dr. Ghali
Say, "Await! So surely I will be with you among the awaiting ones."

Ayah 52:32 الأية
أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَامُهُم بِهَٰذَا ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ
Sahih International
Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing
people?
Muhsin Khan
Do their minds command them this [i.e. to tell a lie against you (Muhammad SAW)]
or are they people exceeding the bounds (i.e. from Belief in Allah to
disbelief).
Pickthall
Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?
Yusuf Ali
Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a
people transgressing beyond bounds?
Shakir
Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people?
Dr. Ghali
Or even do their immature understandings command them to do this?
|
Ayah 52:33 الأية
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Sahih International
Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.
Muhsin Khan
Or do they say: "He (Muhammad SAW) has forged it (this Quran)?" Nay! They
believe not!
Pickthall
Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe!
Yusuf Ali
Or do they say, "He fabricated the (Message)"? Nay, they have no faith!
Shakir
Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe.
Dr. Ghali
Or even are they an inordinate people?. Or even do they say, "He talked it
foolishly?" No indeed, (but) they do not believe.

Ayah 52:34 الأية
فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِ إِن كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ
Sahih International
Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.
Muhsin Khan
Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Quran) if they are truthful.
Pickthall
Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.
Yusuf Ali
Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth!
Shakir
Then let them bring an announcement like it if they are truthful.
Dr. Ghali
Then let them come up with a discourse like this, in case they are sincere.

Ayah 52:35 الأية
أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ
Sahih International
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
Muhsin Khan
Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators?
Pickthall
Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?
Yusuf Ali
Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators?
Shakir
Or were they created without there being anything, or are they the creators?
Dr. Ghali
Or even were they created out of nothing? Or even are they the creators?

Ayah 52:36 الأية
أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ
Sahih International
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
Muhsin Khan
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm Belief.
Pickthall
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!
Yusuf Ali
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief.
Shakir
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty.
Dr. Ghali
Or even did they create the heavens and the earth? No indeed, (but) they have no
certitude.

Ayah 52:37 الأية
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ
Sahih International
Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are
they the controllers [of them]?
Muhsin Khan
Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the
authority to do as they like?
Pickthall
Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge
(thereof)?
Yusuf Ali
Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of
affairs)?
Shakir
Or have they the treasures of your Lord with them? Or have they been set in
absolute authority?
Dr. Ghali
Or even do they have in their presence the treasuries of your Lord? Or even are
they the dominators?

Ayah 52:38 الأية
أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَانٍ
مُّبِينٍ
Sahih International
Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their
listener produce a clear authority.
Muhsin Khan
Or have they a stairway (to heaven), by means of which they listen (to the talks
of the angels)? Then let their listener produce some manifest proof.
Pickthall
Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear
(decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!
Yusuf Ali
Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its
secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof.
Shakir
Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a
clear authority.
Dr. Ghali
Or even do they have a ladder wherein they listen? Then let their listener come
up with an evident, all- binding authority.

Ayah 52:39 الأية
أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ
Sahih International
Or has He daughters while you have sons?
Muhsin Khan
Or has He (Allah) only daughters and you have sons?
Pickthall
Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons?
Yusuf Ali
Or has He only daughters and ye have sons?
Shakir
Or has He daughters while you have sons?
Dr. Ghali
Or even has He the daughters, and you have the sons?

Ayah 52:40 الأية
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
Sahih International
Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened
down?
Muhsin Khan
Or is it that you (O Muhammad SAW) ask a wage from them (for your preaching of
Islamic Monotheism) so that they are burdened with a load of debt?
Pickthall
Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt?
Yusuf Ali
Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load
of debt?-
Shakir
Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are overburdened by a debt?
Dr. Ghali
Or even do you ask them for a reward, (and) so they are weighed down with heavy
fines?

Ayah 52:41 الأية
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
Sahih International
Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
Muhsin Khan
Or that the Ghaib (unseen) is with them, and they write it down?
Pickthall
Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?
Yusuf Ali
Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down?
Shakir
Or have they the unseen so that they write (it) down?
Dr. Ghali
Or even do they have in their presence the Unseen, (and) so they are writing
(it) down?

Ayah 52:42 الأية
أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا هُمُ الْمَكِيدُونَ
Sahih International
Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a
plan.
Muhsin Khan
Or do they intend a plot (against you O Muhammad SAW)? But those who disbelieve
(in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) are themselves in a plot!
Pickthall
Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the
ensnared!
Yusuf Ali
Or do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves
involved in a Plot!
Shakir
Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones
in war.
Dr. Ghali
Or even would they like plotting? Then the ones who have disbelieved are they
who are (circumvented) in their plotting.

Ayah 52:43 الأية
أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
Sahih International
Or have they a deity other than Allah ? Exalted is Allah above whatever they
associate with Him.
Muhsin Khan
Or have they an ilah (a god) other than Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that
they ascribe as partners (to Him)
Pickthall
Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe
as partner (unto Him)!
Yusuf Ali
Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they
associate with Him!
Shakir
Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up
(with Him).
Dr. Ghali
Or even do they have a god, other than Allah? All Extolment be to Allah above
whatever they associate (with Him)!

Ayah 52:44 الأية
وَإِن يَرَوْا كِسْفًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ
Sahih International
And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is
merely] clouds heaped up."
Muhsin Khan
And if they were to see a piece of the heaven falling down, they would say:
"Clouds gathered in heaps!"
Pickthall
And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap
of clouds.
Yusuf Ali
Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say:
"Clouds gathered in heaps!"
Shakir
And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say:
Piled up clouds.
Dr. Ghali
And in case they saw a dark lump falling down from the heaven, they would say,
"Accumulated clouds!"

Ayah 52:45 الأية
فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ
Sahih International
So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible
-
Muhsin Khan
So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a
fainting (with horror).
Pickthall
Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be
thunder-stricken,
Yusuf Ali
So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall
(perforce) swoon (with terror),-
Shakir
Leave them then till they meet that day of theirs wherein they shall be made to
swoon (with terror):
Dr. Ghali
So, leave them out, till they meet their Day wherein they will be stunned.
(i.e., thunderstruck)

Ayah 52:46 الأية
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
Sahih International
The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.
Muhsin Khan
The Day when their plotting shall not avail them at all nor will they be helped
(i.e. they will receive their torment in Hell).
Pickthall
A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped.
Yusuf Ali
The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given
them.
Shakir
The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be
helped.
Dr. Ghali
The Day when their plotting will not avail them anything, nor will they be
vindicated.

Ayah 52:47 الأية
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا
يَعْلَمُونَ
Sahih International
And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of
them do not know.
Muhsin Khan
And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the
torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know
not. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 27, Page 36].
Pickthall
And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most
of them know not.
Yusuf Ali
And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment besides this:
But most of them understand not.
Shakir
And surely those who are unjust shall have a punishment besides that (in the
world), but most of them do not know.
Dr. Ghali
And surely, for the ones who did injustice, there is a torment besides that, but
most of them do not know.

Ayah 52:48 الأية
وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ
حِينَ تَقُومُ
Sahih International
And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are
in Our eyes. And exalt [ Allah ] with praise of your Lord when you arise.
Muhsin Khan
So wait patiently (O Muhammad SAW) for the Decision of your Lord, for verily,
you are under Our Eyes , and glorify the Praises of your Lord when you get up
from sleep.
Pickthall
So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our
sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,
Yusuf Ali
Now await in patience the command of thy Lord: for verily thou art in Our eyes:
and celebrate the praises of thy Lord the while thou standest forth,
Shakir
And wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, for surely you are before Our
eyes, and sing the praise of your Lord when you rise;
Dr. Ghali
And (endure) patiently under the Judgment of your Lord, (for) then surely you
are under Our Eyes, and extol with the praise (s) of your Lord when you rise up.

Ayah 52:49 الأية
وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَارَ النُّجُومِ
Sahih International
And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
Muhsin Khan
And in the night time, also glorify His Praises, and at the setting of the
stars.
Pickthall
And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars.
Yusuf Ali
And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the
stars!
Shakir
And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars.
Dr. Ghali
And for (part) of the night, then (also) extol Him, and at the with drawing of
the stars.
