Prophet Muhammad - 29: Humility Is A Guide For Islamic Rulers

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

In everything the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, whether a comment on a situation, a story, an advice, or a sermon, and in everything he dictated, such as an agreement, a promise or a letter, he was in effect delivering God’s message, explaining the part of it that was related to the situation in hand.

He realized that his mission meant that he dedicated his life to this task. God tells us that His messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), provides a good example for us to emulate if we aim to earn His pleasure and happiness in the life to come.

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

By way of explaining how the Prophet (peace be upon him) used every possible method to explain to his audience the concepts of Islam, its moral standards and values, and how people should conduct their lives in order to practice what they believe, we referred to his method of telling stories.

Any story the Prophet told was short, to the point and had an obvious lesson for us to learn.

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the bearer of God’s message to mankind. As such, his task was to deliver the message and ensure that those who received it understood it well.

Since Islam is a complete way of life, providing guidance in every aspect of life, including economics and politics, its teachings in these areas must be fully understood by ordinary persons, so that they are able to put them into practice; everyone in their own areas.

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

The Prophet (peace be upon him) molded a society in which all people were equal.

When Makkah fell to Islam without a fight, eight years after the Prophet and his companions had to seek refuge away from it as a result of a sustained persecution campaign, Bilal, a black companion of the Prophet and a former slave, stood on top of the Kaabah to make the call to prayer. One of the chiefs of Makkah said to another:

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) — 21: Implementing General Orders

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

Since Islam is a complete way of life, it wants the government of the Muslim community to implement its principles and carry out its orders. There is no rigidity in the Islamic system of government.

Islam simply lays down broad lines, which must be observed. Within these broad lines, any system that is acceptable to the Muslim community is appropriate. One of the principles that Islam lays down is consultative decision making in all spheres of life. Therefore, any system of government that is essentially consultative is acceptable from the Islamic point of view.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an ordinary human being who was chosen by God to deliver His final message to mankind. As Islam is not merely a religious faith that governs only the relation between man and God, but rather a complete way of life that seeks to regulate all aspects of human life, the Prophet’s role gave him the leadership of the Muslim community in every respect. He was the religious, social, military and political leader of the all Muslims.

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

The early companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), who accepted Islam in its early days when it was opposed by the powerful, the rich and the nobles of their community, were a group of great men.

It is only a person of high caliber that accepts a message that declares at the outset that it aims to change the life of individuals and society, doing so only after he examines it carefully, sets aside hostile propaganda and identifies its merits.

Prophet Muhammad 15 — The Essence Of Permanent Relations

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

Some people are eager to have friends, and extend a generous hand to others hoping to forge good relations with them, yet they always complain of poor response. They have the necessary emotion to develop friendship, but the response from others is lacking. This could be because of some negative trait in their personality or manners. Take, for example, the case of one who rigidly sticks to his ideals and wants others to adhere to them at all times.

Where To Look During Prayer: What Is The Matter With Certain People... - The Hadith

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

Worship should always be performed in the way and the manner that God likes and the Prophet (peace be upon him) has shown and explained. Prayer, or salat, is the most important form of Islamic worship. It includes readings from the Qur’an, movements from one position to another, glorification of God and supplication. It must always follow the pattern shown to us by the Prophet. He says: “Pray as you have seen me pray.”

While it is his companions that saw him offering his prayers, and joined him in congregational prayers, we have learned the way to pray through a long succession of generations of Muslims, maintaining the same way and following the Prophet’s example. Anyone who prays in a different way does not fulfill the Islamic duty.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) - 10: A Choice For The Prophet’s Wives

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

At one point the Prophet’s wives made a joint request asking him to provide them with a better standard of living. It was not an unreasonable request, since it came after the Muslim state had enjoyed victories over its enemies and its fortunes were getting much better. It was the sort of request any woman who had lived through years of poverty with her husband would make when they enjoyed better times. Yet the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not care for any material comfort. He wanted his household to remain an example for all Muslims, in all generations. Therefore, he did not look favourably at this request.

His closest companions, Abu Bakr and Umar, were allowed into his home after they had heard of the problem. They were the fathers of two of the Prophet’s wives.

Prophet Muhammad - 7: A Model Husband - The Best Marriage To Emulate

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

When Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent to deliver his message as God’s last messenger to mankind, all human societies ill-treated women. Arabia was no exception. Prior to Islam Arabian women had no rights, not even the right to live. Often parents killed their young daughters, burying them alive, for fear of poverty or shame. Under the Roman and Byzantine Empires, women were practically enslaved, even by the rule of law. The Persian Empire considered women to be the source of evil. Today, the Western civilization boasts of its achievement of equality between men and women. Yet, this was achieved after hard struggle. Until World War One, women did not have the right to vote in general elections in Britain or elsewhere in Europe. The suffragette movement had to fight hard for that right to be granted. By contrast, Islam, as preached by Prophet Muhammad 1400 years ago, gave women a status equal to that of men. The Qur’an clearly states: “Women shall, in all fairness, enjoy rights similar to those exercised against them.” (2: 228)

Prophet Muhammad - 6: Taking Care Of The Weak - Nature Of The Kind

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

By Long before he started to receive his revelations, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for his noble characteristics. One of the most important of these was that he always cared for the weaker elements in society. In Arabia, where a tribal society flourished, the most vulnerable sections of the society were slaves and women. Muhammad looked after both, extending to them exemplary treatment. Perhaps the best example to illustrate this is the way he treated Zayd ibn Harithah, a young lad who was taken captive in a raid mounted by a tribe hostile to his tribe.

According to the universal custom at the time, captives became slaves. Zayd was sold as a slave by his captors. He was then re-sold and brought to Makkah by an uncle of Khadijah, the Prophet’s first wife. On arrival in Makkah her uncle showed her the slaves he brought with him and told her to choose one as a gift. She took Zayd and gave him to her husband.

Aspects Of Islamic Faith — 88: Which Charity Is Best? The Way Of The Prophet

Arab News & Information - By Adil Salahi

We are always confronted by people who request charity. They may have a genuine case which needs help. How does Islam view such people and their action? Hakeem ibn Hazam, one of the Prophet’s companions, used to request the Prophet’s help, knowing that he did not refuse anyone. After giving him on several occasions, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him a few words that are highly significant. Hakeem quotes the Prophet as saying: “The upper hand is better than the lower one. Start with your dependents. The best charity is that which is taken from what is in excess of one’s needs. Whoever seeks to be contented God will grant him content, and whoever seeks to be self-sufficient will have God’s help in being so.” (Related by Al-Bukhari).

Arab News & Information - By Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ghazali

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) elevated marriage to a level that is unparalleled in human history. Marriage is a contract between free people, started and completed by God’s permission and under His care. The Prophet highlighted this fact in his public speech before 200,000 pilgrims. He said: “Fear God in your treatment of your wives. You take them (as wives) as a trust from God, and they become lawful to you by God’s word”.

Why Did the Prophet (Peace And Blessings Of Allah Be Upon Him) Not Tell Us When The Hour Would Begin?

Islamic Questions & Answers

Why did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) not tell us when the Hour would begin?.

Praise be to Allah.

Firstly:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not tell us when the Hour would begin because he did not know when the Hour would begin. We have already quoted in question no. 32627 the evidence from the Qur'aan and Sunnah concerning that.

Secondly:

If it is asked: why did Allah not tell us when the Hour would begin?

Arab News & Information - By Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ghazali

Islam encourages marriage making it the way to build a solid and well-knit society. It is the only legitimate way to satisfy the sexual desire which Islam accepts as natural and healthy. It does not approve of relations outside marriage. Marriage is the proper way to build a family, which is the basic unit of society. It urges people to choose good marriage partners, seeking God’s help in doing so. When the choice is made and the official steps have been taken, marital life should start with the remembrance of God.

The Prophet’s Special Privilege: With Qualities Which Are Not Given To Anyone Else

An important principle of the Islamic faith is that we must not try to make things hard for ourselves. If God has given us a particular duty and the Prophet (peace be upon him) outlined how it is done, then we must keep to what has been laid down and not to add to it, claiming that it will be better, or more complete. We must always remember that the Prophet has given us the perfect model of a believer who earns God’s pleasure and is certain to be admitted into heaven on the Day of Judgment.

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) concluded the Al-Hudaybiyah peace treaty with the people of Makkah, who were still determinedly opposed to Islam, the treaty stipulated that the Prophet and his companions would not be allowed to enter Makkah that year, even though they intended nothing other than to worship there. Instead, they were to return to Madinah, but they would be allowed entry the following year, provided that they would stay only three days in Makkah.

It is universally agreed by Muslim historians that no woman brought her own people greater blessings. When she came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) seeking his help in securing the price she agreed with her master to buy her own freedom, the Prophet offered her to pay that price himself and he would marry her.
