'Hady'
refers to sheep, cows, and camels which
are slaughtered in the Haram, the Sacred
Mosque,
as an approach to Allah when one is
performing Hajj or 'Umrah or both.
Sacrifice is obligatory for those
performing Hajj Iqran combining Hajj and
'Umrah without a break in between. It is
obligatory for the Mutamatti' (the
pilgrim who combines Hajj and Umrah and
enjoys a break in between). After the 'Umrah,
the Mutamatti' enjoys normal life and
wears his usual clothes, can apply
perfume, and do other things until it is
time once again to put on his Hajj garb
for the Hajj on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah
or before it. Thus, he has the added
advantage of performing Hajj and 'Umrah
in the same journey and year as we have
mentioned before. As for the pilgrim who
intends to perform Hajj only (Ifrad),
Hady is a Sunnah. Scholars held that
Hady is a Sunnah for the pilgrim who
performs 'Umrah.
The
sacrifice of Hady is an integral part of
the day of Nahr. If
the sacrificial animal is a sheep or a
goat, it must have completed its first
year and begun the second. Scholars
allowed sacrificing a six month old lamb
providing that it is fat and healthy.
The sacrificial cows and buffaloes must
be at least two years old. As for a
camel it must be at least five years
old. The sacrificial animal must be
healthy and free from all physical
defects. It should not be one-eyed, nor
should its limb be mangy or very thin
and weak. Its ears or tail must not be
deeply cut off. It must not be blind or
suffering from similar or worse effects
than the aforementioned, otherwise, it
will not suffice the pilgrim to fulfill
his obligation. A pilgrim may slaughter
one sheep and it will suffice him to
fulfill his obligation. Seven pilgrims
may share in sacrificing a cow. The same
applies to the he and she-camels. It is
a Sunnah that the pilgrim
chooses the fat Hady and gives its
skin-flee and intestines as a Sadaqah
for the poor of the Haram.
It
is preferred that he himself slaughters
his Hady if it is possible, otherwise,
it is essential that the pilgrim
witnesses the sacrifice ceremony himself
direct the sacrificial animal towards
Qiblah and say, in the name of Allah and
Allah is the Great. Scholars have
different views as to the time of the
first removal of Ihram. A group of them
held that it occurs after throwing the
pebbles and slaughtering sacrificial
animals, others held that it starts when
the pilgrim finishes slaughtering his
sacrificial animal and shaving or
clipping his hair. The performance of
two of these rites is sufficient to
release the pilgrim from all
restrictions of the state of Ihram. Ibn
Qudama, Malik, Abi Thawr, Attaa, and
Ahmad in a narration reported by him,
held that the only
rite after which the pilgrim can take
off his Ihram garb and free himself from
the restrictions of state of Ihram, is
throwing pebbles. Once the Hajj is done
with throwing pebbles, he is allowed all
the things that was forbidden during the
state of Ihram: he may wear perfume, put
on regular clothes, clip his nails and
others, except for approaching his wife
sexually. He may have sexual intercourse
with his wife after completing Tawaf Al
Ifada in what is known as the Second or
final removal of the state of Ihram.
