On the first day,
the pilgrim is to throw Jamarat Al-Aqabah.
It is a Sunnah to stand at the bottom of
the valley (a wide street nowadays) with
the place where he is to throw the
pebbles close and in sight. The Ka'bah
should be on his left side and Mina on
his right. He should hold the pebbles
between the tips of his thumb and index
finger. He should then throw them one by
one. If he throws them altogether, it
will be as if he had thrown one pebble
only. 'In the name of Allah, Allah is
the Great. Let Satan and his League
perish, O Allah, let this be an accepted
Hajj, with sins forgiven, and a
well-appreciated effort', before he
throws the pebbles. He should say,
'Allah is the Great' with each throw. He
should not stand at Jamrat Al Aqabah
after he throws it. In the 11th day of
Dhul Hijjah, the first day of At-Tashriq
he should start with throwing the small
Jamrah near Mosque Al Khayf, then he
should throw the middle and big Jamrah (Jamarat
Al Aqabah). He should follow the close
sequence which the Prophet (P.B.U.H.)
used to observe. The majority of
scholars held that observing sequence in
throwing pebbles at the Jamarat is a
necessary condition. Abu Hanifa, Al
Hasan and Attaa held that it is a Sunnah.
Some scholars were of the opinion that
it is essential, the negligence of which
necessitates compensation. The small
Jamrah is to be thrown after sunset. He
is to throw seven pebbles, holding each
one between his thumb and index finger
before throwing it and repeat what he
did in Jamarat Al Aqabah. Once he throws
a pebble, he should direct his face
toward Qiblah, raise his hands in
supplication. He should thank Allah for
his bounties and say there is no god but
Allah and ask Him to shower His
blessings on Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). Then
he should go and throw the middle Jamrah
with seven pebbles. It is best
that he directs his face to the Qiblah
on throwing the small and middle Jamrah.
It is a Sunnah that after he throws the
pebbles, he turns left in the direction
of the Qiblah raising his hands and
supplicate to Allah for quite a long
time. Then he is to go to the Jamarat Al
Aqabah, throw seven pebbles as he did on
the day of Nahr. Only this time, he
should leave immediately after he throws
the pebbles without pause. I advise the
reader to read the original book for
more details. On the second day of At-Tashriq,
he should throw the three Jamarat as he
did on the preceding day. If he is in a
hurry, he should depart from Mina before
the sunset of the second day of At-Tashriq.
If he stayed until after sunset, he is
obligated to throw the three Jamarat on
the third day of At-Tashriq. Abu Hanifa
held that he is not obligated to do so
unless he stayed in Mina
until the dawn of the third day of At-Tashriq
days. It is allowed for the pilgrim to
hold the pebbles in anyway he likes, and
from any direction so long that he
throws it at the prescribed spot. It is
allowed for the pilgrim not to mention
Allah, the Most High and not to
supplicate Him in each throw.
