If the days of at
Tashriq ended without
throwing pebbles, the pilgrim is
obligated to slaughter a sheep in
compensation. The same verdict should be
applied on the pilgrim who does not
throw the pebbles of or most pebbles of
a whole day e.g. four pebbles of the day
of Nahr (sacrifice) and eleven pebbles
in one of At Tashriq days. If the number
of pebbles which were not thrown was
less than the aforementioned, then the
pilgrim has to give Sadaqah for every
pebble which he did not throw that is
equal to Zakat Al Fitr (breakfast Zakah),
namely, one Sa' (approximately three
kilograms or approximately one and half
kilograms of wheat, barely, raisins, dry
cottage cheese, rice, corn or similar
items considered as basic foods). The
Hanafi school and Ataa Ibn Abi Rabah
held the same view. The Shafi'i school
held that if the days of At-Tashriq were
over and the pilgrim did not throw
as many as one pebble, he is obligated
to give two handfuls of basic foods in
compensation. If he did not throw two
pebbles, he must give four handfuls of
basic foods in atonement. If he did not
throw as many as three pebbles, he must
sacrifice for atonement. If the pilgrim
did not throw pebbles on the first days
of At Tashriq on purpose or out of
forgetfulness, he may make up for it in
the second or third day but he is not
obligated to sacrifice for atonement. If
someone delayed throwing pebbles for a
day or two, he must throw with the
intention of maintaining the original
sequence of throwing pebbles on the
first, second then third day.
