One who cannot
throw for a valid reason e.g. illness or
imprisonment or is too weak to stand in
the crowds, may ask someone else to
throw pebbles on his behalf providing
that his excuse remains valid until the
last day of At-Tashriq. The
representative of the pilgrim should
throw for himself first, then for the
person he represents. He is not
obligated to throw the three Jamarat for
himself first then for the person he
represents. It suffices that he throws
each Jamrah on his own behalf then on
behalf of the person he represents. If
he throws for another person and did not
throw for himself, it is considered as
if he threw for himself. Also, if he
asks someone else to throw on his behalf
for a valid reason then, after this
person threw on his behalf, this reason
lost its validity, he is not to repeat
the throwing notwithstanding the fact
that there is still time enough for him
to repeat it. A group of scholars held
that, in such a case, it is a Sunnah to
throw the pebbles again. However, if the
excuse loses its validity before the
representative throws on his behalf, he
is, by consensus obligated to throw the
pebbles himself.
